One store that ticks me off is Game Stop. The online shop is great though for pre-ordering.

The local stores aren't so great in my experience.

For me Game Crazy has been good.

EB Games was good until Game Stop bought them.

Watching these videos didn't help me have good thoughts on local Game Stop stores.

So when buying games, especially used games......Look elsewhere and don't trade in nothing to them......You'll get ripped off. Your better off selling your stuff on like Ebay or Craigslist.

But that's just what I think. I doubt Game Crazy offers better trade in values too. I like there used game prices better, that's about it.

The internet is where the real deals are. However average Joes and Jills think online is risky and that's why these shops do so well.

What stores that sell games piss you off or have gave ya a bad experience in the past?

no one is forcing you to buy from gamestop...

and anyone who knows anything has known gamestops used game prices are not a good deal at all, unless you are using a coupon or an edge card.

welcome to the internet!

Ok I can understand saying Gamestop sucks but Gamecrazy is pretty much the same prices. To call Gamestop out for high prices and then praise Gamecrazy seems silly.

I have no qualms buying new games from gamestop. They are close to work and I can walk in and pick up a new release on release day. Sure I could buy it from Amazon or some source, though I have to pay taxes on Amazon purchases for being blessed with living in their home state :), but if I order online, I can't fulfill my need of instant gratification.

Used games I pretty much always go through half.com, despite my disdain for ebay, but I have little options and I've found some decent deals on used games I wanted.

Prices really are in the eye of the beholder; if the used price at gamestop seems reasonable to someone, they'll pay it, if not, they'll go somewhere else.

i generally only buy used games from Gamestop because sometimes you can find a decent deal. I bought Battlefield: Bad Company the other week for $17.99.
Sure, most of their used games are overpriced, but i've know that for years so i don't buy those games, so i don't get what all the problem is.

Gamestop is largely evil, but their powers are occasionally used for good, such as the frequent buy 2 used, get 1 free sales.

Gamestop's worst practice IMO is marketing used games as new.

On the other hand, the used game section has some good deals if you look. I got Metroid Prime for 2.99 and Windwaker for 4.99, which I thought was decent.

Some games, especially new ones, are only $5 or so cheaper than their "new" alternative.

In my area, GameCrazy's price on a used game is almost always exactly $5 more than GameStop's price for the same used game. There are exceptions of course, but while I occasionally browse through the used racks at GameStop, I don't even bother going into GameCrazy any more unless I know that they have something specific that I want and I can't find it anywhere else.

Okay....I should have said the stores suck, cause when it comes to pre-ordering games online it rules. I pre-ordered Ghostbusters on the Wii. Got a kick ass T-shirt with it, wish they would have asked what size I am but whatever. Also got a pre-recorded phone message from Dan Aykroyd!

I just made this thread for people to watch out with some of there tatics and ways they handle people in stores.

When it comes to used games I seem to find better deals at Game Crazy then Game Stop. But for some people it depends.

Do I hate Game Stop? No.....As I said I will pre-order online. In store not really.....Who knows might find a good deal on some used game. I just haven't yet..... In my local Mall we have a Game Stop now, we use to have EB Games when it wasn't owned by Game Stop and EB Games would always have better deals.

Again I made this thread for people to know a little bit more at what goes on at Game Stop stores. I thought the videos were interesting....

I did re-edit my original post as I was a bit harsh and considering I pre-ordered some games with them because of the bonus items online. I like the online store just not local and when you pre-order at local shops you have to put money down....

Anyways......Let's open this thread to all stores that sell games.....What stores bring your piss to a boil? What bad experiences have you had?

these are not new things. to be honest.. if your a smart shopper. you wont get burned by gamestop. I worked at 3 different stores. and yes the employee's used the games. Deal with it. You dont like it. goto best buy or walmart.
I will continue shoppnig at gamestop,as long as they offer the buy a used game and giving me the ability to return it within 7 days if i dont like it. What other gamestore's do that..none in my area. quote from a game crazy employee "we dont guarentee satisfaction" so i rarely buy used from them. Only thing i know i want right then and there.

Search is your best friend

I am surprised that anybody still shops at GameStop. Seriously, the last time EB/GameStop was decent was way before the merger and EB actually went by their real name, Electronics Boutique.

I mean, the glaring issues with GameStop are very apparent. Opening games and selling used games as new. Giving you $15 for a trade-in then turning around and putting it back on the shelf for $54.99. The fact that they claim that if you don't pre-order, then you are totally out of luck on launch day for a popular game, yet you can walk into the local Best Buy/Wal Mart/whatever and find rows of the same game available.

Heck, even their "deals" are pathetic compared to what they used to be. You used to be able to trade in 3 games get an extra $20 at Electronics Boutique. Now, you'll be lucky to find trade in 5/get $20. You used to be able to trade in a popular new game for $35 in store credit (back when console games were $50 even). Now, you should consider yourself extremely lucky to get $25.

I guess GameStop is the perfect example to show that people are more lazy than they are smart. Pretty much everywhere BUT GameStop offers better prices and service.

the reason they claim this, from my personal experience.. one of the 3 manager's i dealth with was sometimes a jerk. and if we had extra's he wouldn't sell them unless the people pre-ordered them.. kinda stupid i know. but sometimes you get people like this

Not a game store exactly, but I have to say every time I leave Best Buy I am empty handed and in a rage because of some annoying thing that happened while in the store.

I hate when people condemn an entire store chain because of what they charge for newer used titles. There is so much more that a place like Gamestop or Game Crazy offers.

First, Gamestop is the one place that you KNOW will have a game on or the day after the ship date/release date. Granted, they may sell out before you can get to the store, but at least you have an option if you don't trust the same-day delivery online options. Many other stores are finally getting better with this, but for the big name titles, you know exactly who will have it, and you have options to ensure you have it at the very first moment possible.

Second, if you are ever in need of a quick extra controller or something (for a weekend party or the like), you know exactly where to go and find used ones.

Third, if you buy a used game and you do not like it, you have 7 days to bring it back, no questions asked. Even though I don't typically like when people take advantage of this Gamestop policy and simply "rent" games, it's still there, and it's a fantastic perk. (Side anecdote: Of course, if you take advantage of this perk and a Gamestop employee catches on to it, they'll refuse you (and they have the right to). When I worked at Gamestop a couple years ago, this woman would come in once a week and bring back 3 or 4 games while her son looked through more. After about 4 weeks of this, I told her straight out that this was her last time bringing back games because her son "didn't like them". She quit doing it and continued to shop there normally.)

Fourth, you can quickly and easily find older titles that you "all of a sudden" want to play. About 3-4 weeks ago, I got back into GT5P on the PS3. There's not to much there to satisfy you for long, so I wanted to dive into GT4 on the PS2, a game that I had skipped over years ago due to a lapse in gaming. I wanted the game right then and there, because the wife was heading out of town and I needed something to play to take advantage of the quiet house. GT4 is long out of print, so what were my options if Gamestop didn't exist? Order it online and wait a week or two for it to arrive? However, Gamestop DOES exist, so I pilfered through their used PS2 bin, found an original case and manual in great shape (not the greatest hits case), paid my $10 for it, and went home and played it.

Gamestop has a lot more to offer than just high used game prices.

Uh, I've never NOT had Best Buy/Wal Mart have a game available on the launch date. Do you still work for GameStop? You sound like a press statement...

Silent Rob was punched in the face because Gamestop's pre-orders don't mean anything.

I don't like EB Games because they sell broken shit. I bought 3 used DS games and not 1 of them worked. Do they even test this crap before putting it on the shelf?

No I do not. I worked there part-time for 3 months mainly because I had started a 2nd shift job, and I got bored as hell sitting at the house doing nothing in the morning. So I found another job to make a little extra cash.

While the perks were great for a gamer (free "rentals" of any game in the store, 15% discount on anything), the job itself sucked, especially when the cool manager went to another store and this douchebag replaced her. I still shop at that particular store, and the manager has tried to get me to come back, but there's no way I'd ever do it, because of him and because of Gamestop's policies for employees. It's not worth the minimum wage.

However, when people post in a thread like this and complaining, I just picture them going into a Gamestop, looking at a recently released game that is used for $55, then getting all pissed and stomping out. There's no sense in that, like purbeast said earlier, nobody is forcing you to buy or trade in used games.

I don't know what your Youtube link is (blocked at work), but ya, Gamestop is known to not care about pre-orders and just hand the game out to whomever walks in. However, in my experience, the only people who don't get their pre-orders are the ones who wait two days to come pick it up.

With that said, I think pre-ordering is pointless unless there's a nice extra involved. And if you're going to wait a couple days before picking it up, then why are you pre-ordering in the first place?

To answer your last question....no, games aren't tested.

GameStop's number one advantage, in my mind, is that I can actually go online to see what the hell they've got in stock at a particular store with reasonable accuracy. Their prices tend to be reasonable on some older RPGs, too.

When GameStop fails, I usually turn to Goozex or eBay. Both are time-consuming and expensive, but they do mostly guarantee I'll get what I want in the condition I want it in.
