So i've got some Mini DV tapes I would like to transfer but i'm having trouble finding a camcorder that uses mini-dv's at a B&M store, I would like to be able to get it by this weekend so it needs to be from a local store... any help?

Best Buy no longer carries them?

No, they dont. Well, they have one Sony that goes for about 3200 bucks, and its no longer available online. Doubt you'd find it in a store.
And it sounds to me like you want something cheap to transfer this stuff one last time and then be done with it, right?

OK, this is not right.

Category says "mini DV" but obviously those are not.
:hmm:

Since I think you just need a transfer device, get a cheap used model from a reputable company (in case you need exchange or refund). Transfer the stuff. And from now on use a hard drive or flash based camera. They are so much better. All you gotta do is remove the memory card, or back up directly to your computer hard drive.

I have a 30GB sony and even though it has few features and image quality is meh, the ability to just copy a MPG file over is so nice I dont care about anything else.

Yeah i saw the same thing at target, confused me.... i know i can find something if I look online but I was really hoping to pick something up at a store today, my main use is for the existing tapes i have...

Didn't realize mini-dv's were that obsolete

Not to be harsh but magnetic tape was never a good medium, and as soon as it hit the industry was already looking to replace it. It degrades when you use it. It degrades when you dont use it.
And its not cost effective to get a new but obsolete car just because you have a couple gallons of old fuel left laying around. Better to move on to something better and you wont have to worry about suck things.
I know you probably spent a pretty penny on all those tapes, but you'd be wasting even more money to get a camcorder that you dont actually need. I recommend a modern flash or hard drive camcorder and from now on your recording medium will be a non-issue. One less item to worry about.
Go to walmart and pick up a cheap pocket recorder and have some fun. This is especially important if you HAVE to have it this weekend. You wont be finding a tape recorder anyway.
