What steak should I buy for my dinner tonight? I live in the dorms and they are having smomething sucky for dinner again, so I decided I will go buy a steak for dinner tonight. I will be cooking it on my george forman grill so it needs to be a good steak that doesn't need seasoning. I am looking to spend around $5 or $6 and will be sneaking some ketchup and A1 out of the lunch room.

You're better off eating the school food if you're planning on putting ketchup on a steak. :disgust:

Foreman grills work great for hotdogs, hamburgers, and chicken breasts, but they SUCK for steak.

Go out and use a real grill :) Electric cooked steaks are a disgrace :)

yeah dude go make a hamburger. Don't waste money on a steak if you're going to electrify it.

Maybe something like a Porterhouse or Filet, not sure a T-Bone would cook correctly on the Foreman Grill. Looks for some fat marbling, and not too thick or thin of a cut. It should turn out OK, but probably like a pan fried steak more than grilled.

a good porterhouse or ribeye would be tasty.

I don't have a George Foreman grill, but I have a medium sized electric grill that does a nice job on steaks, if you like them rare and not charred. I found Grillmates Mesquite marinade to be a tasty way to make the steak tender and melt in your mouth.

Please don't ruin any cut of meat on a george foreman grill, especially a filet (what are you thinking) , best cut of meat for a college students money is a ribeye, if you do not mind the fat vein its the second best cut.

if you are anywhere near a Costco you can get a bulk pack of ribeyes for the same price as a single steak at a supermarket. Good quality meat, too :)

rib eye is good. but make sure its a think cut. because the grill cooks on both sides simul, its gonna cook it fast. if you're like me, i like my steaks bloody like a chick on the rag so the thick cut will make sure it'll be red.

why don't you just borrow someone's pan and cook it up? or if there's an oven do some broiling.

Well, if you cook it correctly, a sirloin is really good, but I would only use salt and pepper.
Less flavor, but more tender and expensive, is a Rib Eye.
NY STrip, same price as a Rib Eye, but tougher meat.
Filet Mignon, can't be had for $6.00

I need to go down to the barn and reassure the beef that I WILL NOT ALLOW their upcoming untimely demise to be frivolously wasted on a George Foreman grill then covered in ketchup. Perhaps I should post some tasty beef recipes.

ribeye or new york, bone out, is your best bet for that.

Don't worry my dad will be grilling me plenty of cows this summer when I go home. And its my special A1-ketchup mixture. It is a reaaly good steak sauce mixture, try it some time.
