WTF? Not that I'm complaining, but I've never had this happen in all my years of being an Amazon customer (or any other retailer for that matter).

We got my wife's cousin the book for Christmas, but then found out that his grandparents bought him the same book. So I was going to return it and eat the return shipping cost...

I've had that for one or two little items. Nothing expensive. If its small and cheap they dont wanna pay for return shipping, but they also want happy customers.

Not as sweet as the free PS3 someone here got a week or so ago, but still an OK freebie.

Give it a children's charity or something if you don't have a need for it.

I have to say, Amazon can be so hassle-free that it's frustrating. ;)

One time, I needed to return a radio that would do nothing but play FM/AM (No CDs period). I was getting myself ready to have to argue my case, starting the return process, and they said... here's a return pre-paid shipping tag.

I'm thinking... WTH? I didn't even have to argue? Niiiice!

To me, they have a solid business model. Keep customers coming back for more. It may cost you something on returns, but customers are "mostly" honest, and will keep coming back when they're treated right. And, when you sell pretty much every thing out there, you'll likely have a lot of customers.

I was thinking about giving it to my wife to put in her classroom (she said that the boys in her 2nd grade class LOVE these books), but I think giving it to someone in need is a better idea.

Yup, just worked for me.
I had a broke Gerber flashlight and was gonna return it. Now I got my money back and I can send it to the Gerber people so they can examine it.

It's not worth them shipping it back and processing the RMA. (Oh nvm, you said you would eat the shipping cost). It might still not be worth it even to process it in the holiday season when they have a ton of RMA's happening.

Tiger Direct (when they were a small, customer friendly company years ago) did this for me with a $20 slot 1 riser card I didn't end up needing.

Unlike Target. Don't bother calling their customer support line, its staffed by obnoxious overseas employees that all happen to be indian.

From my experience with Amazon.com through years and years of being their customer, their customer support is by far the best.

I have had that happen for a couple of small items <$10. Two separate items, one arrived damaged, the other was poor quality not as described.

The headache to them and you for a return and potential restock is not worth it to.

Customer goodwill is more valuable.

I purchased an 8 person table setting of dishes and 2 of the saucer cups arrived broken.

They shipped a complete new set and told me to keep both.

Happened to me as well. I ordered two new SSD's, what I recieved was a book on fruit juicing and health.

I chat online, took pictures of the book, box etc. They don't want the book back, send out two new SSD's.

I was kinda shocked how easy it was to get my order corrected.
