I got a P4 2.4b 533mhz and i would like to overclock it so i was just wondering if any of you wizards out there know the safest way to do it without frying everything!

Wow where to start!!!

You need to list specs of the chip and the rest of the components you have or want to buy...If you need help picking components ask....

IN components I mean POwer supply, Ram, Motherboard, Heatsink cooler, etc...

The Pentium 4 2.4GHz is a pretty good overclocker. I'd try for a 166MHz bus right away for 2.988GHz. You may have to raise the CPU voltage some to make it stable. Make sure you use a good heatsink-fan combo not the garbage stock one that comes with the CPU. You want a copper cooler with thin copper spokes. Good luck!:)

OK, this is how NOT to overclock unless you know you have a C1 or are very familiar with the location of your CLEAR CMOS jumper. Go in small steps, increase voltage when it gets unstable, and stop when you get around 1.7 vcore.

Yeah I aggree with Ketchup79...take it slow and test each new setting. I started out by increasing the bus by 5 until I got up to 160. Could probably go to 165-170 but don't really care too. Oh, I have C1 by the way. And don't forget to check the Vcore with each new setting.

Screwface is right about the HSF though. Toss the original one and go copper.

Sorry. Totally disagree. Work your way up. Maybe start @ 145 FSB.

The stock HS is far from "garbage". I had my system running 2.9 GHz (so have others) just fine with that HS. Once you get over 3 GHz, its time to look at an aftermarket unit.

i never take it slow, myself. i go for the highest speed that posts and then work my way down. i find find that i am able to find the sweet spot a lot faster that way. of course, if i had to actually clear the cmos with a jumper instead of just holding down the insert key when the machine powers on, i might have a different methodology ;). i just hope the 2.4b retail box i just ordered from Newegg is a c1 (crosses fingers).

Thats exactly what I usually do as well :)

List the specs already!!! we don't know if you even have a c1...This is important cause it can give us an idea where this thing may limit.
