Well, I would look for the type in a can. :)

Kidding.. I am also interested in this. So, let me add some idiot question of mine:

-Can the same type paint be used on both the plastic bezel and the metal sides?

-Obviously the metal needs to be sanded/prepared for paint... but what about the plastic? Any preperations needed on that?

-Painting buttons (ie Power & Reboot)... the paint would rub off over time correct? Anyway to help prevent this?

You may want to check out Virtual Hideout. They have some how-to guides, and also a case gallery of modified cases. I saw a comment that it was best to use textured paint. The surface is supposed to look better and cover up mistakes.

to cover up small place, people say to put lotion there like vaseline or lubriderm, then after your done painting and everything is dried off, just wipe off the lotion and done.

Krylon works GREAT on plastics. I painted my whole case (plastics case) and drives black using Krylon Semi-Flat Black. It looks AWESOME! Much better than that beige before. ;)

I used cobalt blue Rustolem Metallic on my case and it looks great. You really just need to make sure to take your time and do it carefully. That is by far the most important thing to remember. Lots of thin coats covered with a few clear coats also tends to give the best finish. I found that using some car wax helps to really make the finish look good and protects is a bit better from scratches as well.

Good luck!

Were you able to use the metallic paint on the plastic pieces also? No damage or softening of the parts?

You should be able to use the Metallic paint on the plastic parts just fine. Make sure you sand it a little before you spray, so the paint will adhere better. www.hardocp.com had some tutorials on their site on doing case painting :)

i just went to home d and picked up some rust-ol and work fine on metal and plastic if you cut blow holes do that before you paint, i would also stay away from glossy paints use a flat or semi and then put a clear coat on.

I've used both the Krylon and the Rust-o-leum and prefer the Rust-o-leum. However, this is just my personal preference.

I just finished painting my full tower and my 3 monitors. I took the monitors apart, and took the cd covers/floppy cover off and apart. I used high gloss black enamel spray paint for the cases and metallic silver for the buttons (it was all they had at the store). I sanded down the drives covers and the metal pieces thouroughly and then primed and painted. 3 coats is optimal. 2 cans should cover it. I hear that krylon is the best for this sort of thing. Also, don't be a pussy and take apart your monitor. It's nothing to worry about and it gives a really sharp look.

Could someone recommend (or strongly NOT recommend) a glossy red paint for modding cases. I would like to do up my Antec case in a bright glossy red with Porsche emblems. (My Fav car :D ).

A link to a box that has the look that I'm after is at bottom of post. No help with the paint choice, though.

I have looked at the website for Krylon (I think) and they have an automotive paint called Duplicolor that seems to be a good choice. It comes in lots of bright colors and seems to give a good shine.

I completed a case for my wife using regular black paint and lacquer, but the shine is fair at best. I really want to get a carlike shine on my case and would appreciate any offerings.

Thanks in advance.

You have to put [ ] around the H in hardbox for the link to work....the brackets upset the link-ifier. Sorry!
