What speeds will I get with this router?

I know it says 54mbps, but what does that really mean? My desktop downloads at 600k/sec, and I want this router for the netbook I recently purchased (1000he.) So if I'm downloading a file, what speeds would I get? I'm currently on an old linksys B router, for comparison. Thanks in advance!

Since your Internet is only 600kb/sec. the speed of the new Router would be the same as the old Router.

54mbps is the data transfer speed between the Router and your pc ....
the download speed is what you ISP "internet provider " give you

So would I be fine with G? I can download a 60mb file in 1 minute, so should I go with N? Why would I even go with N over G?

60 MB in 60 sec. is 1 MB per sec. average 802.11g is capable to do 2MB per sec.

Ooops, at 600k/sec I would download 60mb in 100 seconds, so 1 minute and 40 seconds. So should I just save money and go with G?
