What speeds can I expect from ADSL?

Depends on what flavour of DSL you purchase (ADSL/SDSL) as well as the speed of the service you purchase(diffrent providers offer different speeds). Post where you live and someone may be able to tell you what the given provider in that area offers.

It also depends on how far you are from the 'central office' - distance matters with DSL. You can purchase a 384+ rated line and if you're close to the CO you can potentially see speeds in excess of 1200kbps. If you live a mile further down the road you'll probably only see 700-800kbps with the same service/provider. If you live on the boarder of their coverage area, you might only see the gauranteed 384 kbps.

Yea it varies allot.
Tell them ,wnen you sign the agreement, to add a clause with a minimum
600-800 K would be fair (to both of you) as a minimum. "benched on dsl reports.com " or "pcpitstop.com" Put that on the contract !\
I'm a long way away from the hub and I get 9-1200 from Bell South
I'd settle for 500 if I had to ....Shhhhhh.
