what speed DDR should I get?

System is going to be a socket 939 based X2 3800+. What speed DDR do I need to get the maximum performance from this setup?

I'd go for ocz or crucial, any pc3200 except for "value" memory. I've used lesser brands such as Patriot and PQI without problems to save money.

If your going to do some overclocking I would recommend something faster than PC3200, I regret not going with different memory in my system now. Nothing like taking your ram up to DDR500-600 and avoiding using dividers, All depends on your budget though, PC3200 is plenty fast enough even with a divider as long as you get something with good timings (2.5-3-3-5 or so) But if your going all out something that can do DDR600 with good timings.

I have Crucial DDR333 now. If I kept using it in my new system, would it be a bottleneck? I don't to spend money that I don't need to, but I also dont want to choke my X2 performance.

The PC6000 will be best for super ninja overclocking. But some run of the mill PC5100 ram will be ok as well. Just make sure to put your cloak of overclocking on before you begin.

Marlin1975,

I forgot to mention that I'm not planning on overclocking this system. Should I still get DDR500 RAM so that I amy unleash the full power of the X2?

Ha.... I was joking. But regular PC3200 (400Mhz) ram will be fine. Get 2 1gig slabs of PC3200. Great bang for the buck. 🙂

Yup what merlin said, I got 2x1gb sticks of G.Skill PC 3200 for like 79 bucks each and it does 2.5-3-3-5. Im happy with it.
