i have narowed my choice to a 17" KDS with the trinitron tube(maybe you could suggest something better to change my mind)...i want to know what numbers to look for when picking it...dot pitch, refresh rates, etc.

i use it at college and will primaryly use it for surfing the net and games but (sometimes) will use it for typing reports and such...

refresh rates are definitely the one you want to look at first. Anything under a 75 hz, i believe, will damamge your eyes if it flickers. Then, dot pitch. .25 is my standard, but those can be more expensive, so try and get at least .27 dot pitch. Also, since it is a 17 inch, the thing you also have to look for is the actual viewable size. 17 inch may just be the size of the plastic and casing. A 17 inch monitor should have a 16 inch viewable. I have had an eye on the Samsung 753df and 755df. Both are very attractive to me. Samsung monitors are rated just second to trinitron tubes
