hmm, check out Best Buy.com for a very nice deal on the BA4800s. You'll be getting a cleaner sound and a much better deal. I believe it goes for $120 on their online store.

That would depend mostly on whether you want 4 speaker. Note that the speakers on the ACS54 are the same as thoser on the low end 3 piece system, the ACS33. I have the ATP3 and love it. In my opinion if you care that much about surround, get dolby 5.1 with Klipsch speakers, or get the ATP5, which is gonna use the same speakers as the ATP3. They are great speakers, and attractive too! The sub is powerful too. I use a SBLive value, which might limit quality, but overall I think it sounds magnifique. I would not get the ACS54 if you want high quality music, my friend has the 3 piece version and they dont sound nearly as good as mine, and he has a santa cruz!

yeah--it depends on what you're going to do. I think that if you don't care much about nice, clean quality--or don't use your speakers for things such as DVDs. If you just want something to play music and games which has "boom" and produces an OK sound, those Altec Lansing speakers are it. In that case--go for the cheapest ones that you can find that has the 2.1 set up you're looking for.

I got my girlfriend those ACS 33's ??? (entry, entry level 2.1 solution). It sounds good enough for her and considering it was well under $50--not bad.

The ATP3 are very crisp compared to the ACS33. I listen to classical music as well as all sorts of bass intensive music. The woofer is lodged against the corner of the room and shakes the house a bit . They can get very very loud and maintain sound quality as well, great for games too, playing deus ex I got all scared because of the scraping animals to the left or gunfire that was too realistic. (I scare easily though).

ATP 3 sounds better, the ACS54 satellite has a single 3" driver and the sub has a 4" driver, compared to the ATP3 which has a 3" and two 28mm tweeters per sat and a 6.5" driver on the sub which gives much deeper bass.
