I wan't to spend $100-200 on a nice set preferably 5.1 but I may go for 2.1
creative L3500 Ilistened to these a crapusa... they sounded the best out of anything there, very clear and sharp. their klipsch selection to listen to was mid range, I can't remember which logitech sets they had.

I have an M-audio revo 7.1 sound card.

I did but I was hoping for more input on the creative speakers, everyone seems to have a logitech lovefest

Creative makes some nice speakers. I have the Gigaworsk 5.1 system, upgraded from a $25 2.1 Creative system (which was very good especially for that price), and they both are great, IMO.

The reason Logitech is so well liked is because of the price. Creative doesn't really have a system that competes directly with the Z5300s and the Gigaworks are beyond the Z-680s in performance and price.

Their Megaworks I would imagine to be as good of quality as the rest of their systems.

Yeah, I have some Logitechs...the z-640 models. Surprisingly good for around $50. I live in a condo right now, and they are more than powerful enough. There's been a lot of good deals on the z-680s, which offer more power, remote, digital connector, etc. I use my z-640s with an audigy2 zs card and sometimes just with my mom's vhs/dvd combo (rca connectors), and they work great for me. If I do upgrade, which will probably be when I build a seperate, dedicated HTPC, I'm getting the z-680s.

Heh, you haven't found the right threads then. All the ones I've posted on have been very conflicted.

As said, logitech often gets the nod because of the lower price and extra features (remote, digital input) and not necessarily for it's quality of sound (listening to crap mp3's will sound the same on just about any set of speakers).

I have been and always will be a diehard Klipsch fan - spend the money and get the quality of the Promedia Ultra's. In the lower range, the 2.1's and 4.1's are also very good.

I have been asking around about the Creative gigaworks and have found them to be quite good, with some issues on not being loud enough, but I think 7.1 is overkill for just about everything except your own personal movie theater. Other Creative offerings are supposed to sound good, but may suffer from lack of power and volume as well.
