I need a decent pair of speakers for less than $75 that will run on my laptop. I dont have a sound card or anything. The main thing I need this for is because I do slideshows for big groups, so the stock speakers arnt loud enough. I looked on newegg and this is what I have picked out so far. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

If you are willing to take a slight risk from those "no box" items. Direct from Klipsch or some of the bigger retailers still go for around $70 shipped if you want that kind of security. But I definitely would give me recommendation for the Klipsch 2.0 Ultras.

If you are more of a bass lover, the Altec Lansing MX5020 is availble for a similar price. It is a little less accurate than the Klipsch, but it has a nicer piano black finish, more (albeit boomy) bass, and goes for around $50 shipped on eBay.

I really don't see why one should be worried about "no box" items. I have good luck myself. As long as you are buying from a good seller on ebay, you will be ok. It is definitely worth it if you can get the product for half the price, IMO, but to each his own.

Well there are two primary "no-box" PM 2.0 sellers on eBay and both of them are surplus sellers, which on eBay means a standard one line "read the auction" response to any emails, no refunds, and faulty products. You can easily identify them because they use the same photo for every PM 2.0 auction, and that looks suspicious. That's what I'm warning him for. I have no trouble with individual owners who sell their old stuff for an upgrade.

I have the Altec Lansing MX5020 2.0s, they are definately nice for a small 2.0 system. at an honest 12 watts they should be fine.

"Up for auction is a USED Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 PC Speaker System in NEAR NEW condition. There are no visual scratches or marks on this item. Item has been tested and found to be in good working condition. Item is covered by our D.O.A policy."

They have 99.3 percent positive reviews, out of over 50 thousand. It makes sense to use the same photo if they have that much stock since it saves them a lot of time. I would trust a seller like this more than an individual with just a few reviews myself. Hell, when I bought my Planar Media 14s on ebay, they were listed as un-tested open box, but I got them for $9. They work perfectly and look great too. I believe that a lot of these sellers are just looking to move stock/inventory so more often than not they end up selling things for far less than they are worth.

Some people prefer to have a seller that will respond to questions and a real DOA policy instead of just a stating it on the auction. Some people prefer to hear the real voice, although I admit it isn't really an indication of anything.

And 99.3% isn't the greatest feedback on eBay. That's why they are called surplus sellers. You gamble for a cheaper price with zero gurantee. If it's bad, you gotta buy it again. If you have good experiences with this, lucky you. I don't. This is why I personally no longer use surplus sellers "for a deal." You have your anecdotal evidence and I have mine. I'm sharing it to let him know not everyone is "lucky" like you. For a piece of mind goes a long ways with some people.
