What Speakers Do You Guys Use?

hey guys! thought i'd take a poll on how y'all rattle the windows and scare the pets/small children! up til now, i've been using my altec lansing ada885's, which have been sweeeet. they have a built in digital decoder, and have many, many sound output options. dvd sound is extremely good, game output is awesome, music is great (especially bass heavy music). the bass has been what really sets these speakers apart, and is top of it's class...or so i thought.

so i picked up a set of klipsch 5.1's, and O M G, these things are sick. i didn't think there would be that much of a change, but thesethings are PHENOMENAL. these bad boys turn ALL the way up (and believe me, that's UP) with no distortion. i think i might pick up a set of 5.1 ultra's for the living room :D

however, just found out that klipsch stopped making this line, and i think altec lansing has got out of the upper end speaker arrangement as well. both of which are due to due to so many low end, low priced 5.1 speaker arrangements flooding the market, which leaves us poor enthusiasts in the cold.:( so what do you all use to get your kicks???

The next step up is to either get a HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) or pick out your own receiver, bookshelf speakers & subwoofer. My setup is in my sig, though the only PC related task it gets used for is playing MP3s.

I use a set of KLH speakers with subwoofer and an external stereo amp. Got the speakers at Costco about 8 years ago. One of these days I'll upgrade them, but for now, they sound quite good. Better than any dedicated computer speakers.

On my office system its a Yamaha RP-U200 http://www.yamahamultimedia.com/yec/products/cavit/rpu200.asp with an additional Yamaha subwoofer http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=200486&CTID=5003300.

On my gaming system its a Logitech Z-5300e.

If I need to piss off the neighbors I get over it.
Although, back when it was a bunch of asshole college kids living below me, I used to point both subwoofers to the floor, play Barney songs on both systems at the same time, pump up the bass to MAX, and then leave the apartment for the day.

I think I would be pushing my luck getting a sub for the office system :p

Had them for a pretty long time and they still kick ass.
Speakers are nice in that (along with monitors) a quality set can actually last you several generations of computers, and you dont necessarily have to spend an assload of money on them.

Oh, am suprised no one else mentioned it: If you too have noticed that high-end multimedia systems seem to be disappearing, perhaps you should consider regular home amplifiers and speaker systems instead. You get much more quality and power for your money.
I am seriously considering moving the Sony reciever (STR-DE597) next to my computer and setting it on a little wooden box. Maybe move my Logitech Z-5300 into the living room. I spend more time on the computer than on the TV anyway.

well though my speakers suddenly feel crappy (thanks yoyo!) I use Logitech Z560's.... actually they've been great for the 100 bucks I bought them for, but I do admit, I pine for something better.. and less dirty in bass....

Just note that it will be difficult to integrate the z-5300 to get true surround from sources like a DVD player and such unless they have multichannel analog output.

Man excelsior you like pissing off your neighbors it seems :)

For my computer I'm using Logitech's X-530 5.1. For my 42" HDTV I can't believe I'm still using a Sony bookshelf two speaker system that I have had for 13 years. I definitely need some new ones. Can anyone recommend a fairly decent 5.1 system for my TV in the $200 or less range? My wife will not let me spend more than that unfortunately :(

I am just lucky enough to get a Telex EV SONICXS 2.1 system from a local person who brought the set as gift for someone for 5 years but didn't opened it. I take it off their hand for $70, i know it's 2.1 and won't rock the building like other 5.1 setup, but it's the best mid range speakers plus they're discontinued long long time ago. I only listen mp3s and play some games in a very small studio apartment space. It should be plenty bass for my taste and need.
