I am looking at the Cambridge Sound Work Sound Work Digital and The Creative Labs FPS 2000. The price difference i found on the net at this time is that the Cambridge is 40 bucks cheaper ($65). I read AnandTech's High-End SOHO system and am likely going to build to mainly their specs. They went with the Cambridge. I am just wondering what anyone's opinion was.

I have the Cambridge DTT2500 series, and I love them! They come with 4 surround, 1 center and a subwoofer. Only problem is there is a noticable loss of lower mid-range or upper low range, but you can buy a replacement subwoofer, either a 8 or 10 (maybe its 10 or 12....) which I think will solve the problem. Anyways, I really like mine and wouldnt want anything else. The mids and highs are very nice. I would definately recommend them!

after listening to both i'd say go with the cambridge. but don't forget, sound should be based completely on your opinion, i'd check them both out first, not count votes :)

Might want to look into the Altec Lansing ACS56's...cheaper, more powerful (70 watts total), better sounding (compared to the FPS2000's that is). Or do what I did and hook up two 80 watt per channel stereo speakers to a receiver :D
Used to use ACS56's and they were very nice for their price of about $90-$100. check the review at 3dss

also don't forget about the Midilands which provide the sweetness of 5.1 and power also. But if you REALLY want power, go for the Klipsch v.2-400 :)

I am building an entertainment system based around my computer. I need a good set of speajers as well as this poster does. I really like the klipsch's, but they don't have the center channel. What suggestions do you have.

I guess it comes down to how much money you want to spend. As far as 5.1 setups the only 2 I would consider getting would be

Videologic DigiTheatre DTS ($579.00) Plenty of reviews here

or the Midiland S4 8200 ($300.00) Plenty of reviews here

One thing about the S4 8200's is that if you play any games they will only play sound in the front sats and sub which sucks even if you only play games once in awhile.

Personally if it was me I would get the Philips Acoustic Edge sound card with the S4 8200's because its cheaper and with the Edge it plays all games, music and movies in full-accelerated true 5.1 surround sound. Which is pretty kewl. Plus you can pop in some DVD's and get some true DD also.

Myself since I don't care about 5.1 cause I watch all my DVD's on my Home Theatre I'm going with the Edge and Videologic Sirocco Crossfire's. Now that will be sweet.

the klipsch are extremely well on power and bass, but i'm just about to sell off my klipsches and trade in for a Midiland S4-8200 system. the sound is much clearer and not as punchy and loud as the klipsches, which is perfect for me since i want it mainly for music/dvds. the klipsches are better for games, midilands are for dvds and music.

i've got a live plat 5.1 card which should be perfect, however the acoustic edge is a much better deal for a 5.1 soundcard if you're on a budget.

nastimus- what's this about not being about to use the rear channels for sound in games? i've never heard of that before

Im not an audiohead but upgraded my whole computer a couple months ago and went with the DTT2500 set for just over $200 shipped at the time from buy.com with free shipping and coupon. I have my dvd player hooked up to it along with my computer. I find its loud as hell on the computer side to where I have to turn it down allot or it hurts my ears. Games and music cd's remain clear at the level I want to listen at which is good. I actually haven't heard them get fuzzy yet. I have also pushed the sub with rap music and the bass turned up in games and it seems cool to me although maybe not allot of range?

with dvd movies I find the volume is way lower for some reason and I have to turn the knob up halfway to get my movies loud enough to hear everything. Some bass effects seem pretty good rumbling the walls while others don't seem to hit right to me, again I think a range thing. But I still haven't heard distortion and haven't tried blasting the set turned all the way up with anything.

I really can't judge audio quality but everything appears clear, again Im not a home theatre guru but for the price I was surprised at how these performed and being surround sound with all the speakers. I had $140 altec lansing speakers that were 2 1/2 years old before that with 2 satellites and a woofer and it couldn't match this level of sound and clarity at all without distorting so I was really happy with the upgrade. The sound level for me in my room is plenty loud enough for anything I need so Im good.

ZeroBurn- The 8200's only accept 2 channel analog input, so until games start supporting Dolby digital output through SPDIF you can only get stereo in games. No 4 channel games for those speakers but if you get the Edge sound card it does all games/music etc in surround so that would make up for it.

I've got the FPS2000 and I think they sound GREAT, especially for the price. They are not a patch on my HT setup in my front room of course, but they are just computer speakers and are in a relatively small room - which is plenty good enough to make my games come to life and to play my MP3s on.
