A friend was going to set me up a RAID on this board, for which I have been using for several months now. When he went to boot up, nothing - just one long beep. He said he has basically tried EVERYTHING, so we RMA'd the board back to NewEgg for a replacement --- New Board ---- SAME THING...ONE LONG BEEP !!!!

System was running fine here before he went to install the raid, new cd-r, and dvd...But when he took it back to his place to do the work, it never booted since - he said it will not even "post" ???

Does anyone have a clue ? He said there was a post at SOYO about a guy with that problem, and a replaced board worked fine ?

Could it be possible that I was unlucky twice...???

ANY suggestions would really be great at this point - don't know which way to turn next !

Ok, first of all, maybe your power supply isn't up to the challenge of four new drives. What brand/model of PSU are you using?

Also, the board will not POST without an RPM signal on the CPU_FAN1 header, which IIRC is located above the DIMM slots. To get past that impasse, hold down the Insert key while powering up the system, then go into the BIOS and disable Fan-Off Control (FOC). Or plug in a 2200RPM+ fan on the CPU_FAN1 header.

Ok, let me know how the fan question goes. Incidentally, it would be good to make sure the Thermaltake fans aren't being powered from a motherboard fan header. Some Thermaltake fans draw a really outrageous amount of amperage that can fry headers in a jiffy.

Get rid of the shim and see what happens. Also, he could be putting the heatsink on backwards, which will prevent flat contact between the CPU and the core. This guide shows really well what to watch out for (Figures 7, 13 & 14 show how to match up the step in the base with the solid end of the CPU socket). Even the Swiftech has reliefs cut into its base for this purpose.

Still sitting with the same problem - the board "was" functional with no opoblems before, so I don't think it could be a "procedure" problem with setting it up ???

Okay, stupid question to ask, but have you removed the RAID to see if it boots without it? Also, have you reset the BIOS through the jumper (my assumption since I have a KT400 and have not looked at the KT333 manual)?

Just a couple of thought that ran through my mind. My KT400 freaked out once and shorting out/resetting the BIOS resolved my issue. Same thing, one long beep....
