What does the display on the receiver say when you are playing it?

Should be DTS unless your receiver supports multichannel pcm (HDMI 1.2+). Should be a menu on the receiver to see what the audio format is.

Is there a PCM light? It sounds like the PC is doing the decoding and passing the signal as LPCM. Are you getting sound out of all speakers or just the front LR?

Well if you are using the multichannel rca inputs on the receiver and multichannel rca outputs on the sound board, it would be for all intents and purposes equivalence to DTS-MA. The digital to analog is being converted via the computer first then into the sound card to the multichannel out.

If you are using optical or coax it would be either 2 channel pcm or possibly DTS.

Isn't multichannel PCM the original soundtrack decoded and downsampled by the software?

From the sound of it I don't think he is getting MPCM.

But yes if he were using the multichannel RCA's in/out he would be getting multichannel.

Either way a receiver that has no HDMI is lacking in many of the modern calibration tweaks.
