Is the creative platinum EX worth the $$?
Or is the standard plantinum fine?
I am looking for a well rounded sound card.

Anyway LMK your imput.

thx

Normal SoundBlaster Live if you just want sound

If you want the nice in/outs that come with the SB Audigy Platinum, then go for that.

The Klipsch 2.1's and the TB Santa Cruz are a superb combination. Great drivers and software package, and no via issues. 🙂

Santa Cruz! I know you could find a Philps Acoustic Edge for as low as $50 after mail in rebate but i have not seen that lately. Santa Cruz i saw so far 3 times for $59.99 retail at compusa which was after the $20 instant rebate.

if you want the best gaming card, id say audigy, just a plain oem audigy, ive had a game theater xp before which used the same DSP as the santa cruz, it didnt sound as good as the audigy, (on the same set of speakers).

so audigy. and its future proof with the eax HD.

PS: when i tested the sound card, i used a kenwood demo CD, it didnt sound as FULL on the game theater, while it did sound full and there was just an extra depth or somekind. On the audigy i could hear all the instruments while i couldnt with the game theater, but if you want to save money and you want to get the optical out and crap get the game theater.

Philips Acoustic Edge 706. I had a Audigy Xgamer before, had the dreaded pop/crackle with a VIA chipset. Not sure if the card itself was defective or just a compatibility issue. Either way, I am truely impressed with the 706...great sound card.

Ive had no direct experience with the TB's, but I am one of those guys that likes trying out hardware that is different than the common trend thing.

I have the audigy platinum and love it... I have a via chipset and have experienced no problems at all...

Plus the drive comes in handy... and I do love the remote 🙂

I'm running the Platinum audigy also, on a Via chipset, never had a problem yet.
I wantes the 1394 firewire port for digital camcorder, happy with the audigy on my system.
Drawback is high price.
Santa Cruz is the best card for the buck.
I installed a few of them and they rock.

Stick with anything other than Creative. The Live! series absolutely sucks for quality, and the Audigy I don't trust.

The Santa Cruz is the best card for the money right now. For those who said the Audigy is better at music, I think its BS. The SC is much better at music than any Creative card. The only worthy musical aspect of SB cards is strong bass but thats it. The SC has that open, airy quality, the soundstage nice and deep. Heck, even Meridian uses Crystal chipsets in its high-end pre-amp receivers.

For in depth analysis and measurements of the TB Santa Cruz, check out pcavtech.com. They don't have the Audigy though, but they do have the Live! which basically gets trashed by the Santa Cruz, which is near audiophile quality.
