What sort of dancing goes on at weddings nowadays?

Wedding would be for college aged bride/groom.

It's obviously a mix of music due to the age range of participants, but what sort of slow dances are there now? I've been looking through ballroom dance lessons but I'm not sure what type is really what I need.

Bump 'n' Grind

Seriously, I was just at my cousins wedding and all they did was move slowly in circles while hugging each other.

Depends. Last three weddings I went to were heavily Latin and there was mostly cumbia and salsa.

Still, the fact that you're even asking this means you're better off faking a hip injury or going as an emo kid too cool to dance.

So people don't bother to follow the whole foot order type stuff anymore?

Drink more and the dancing thing will feel natural.

Wtf?

You know, like real ballroom dancing.

You mean where people stare at their feet and go 1-2-3, 1-2-3? :)

No, people don't do the foxtrot or the swing at weddings.

Ok, yes that's what I was thinking of. Good to hear I don't have to worry about it.

Lola

it a mix depending on the couple.
For us, we thought it is not appropriate to bump and grind with all family around so we did a mixture of good dance music from the past and some cool current stuff, but we also threw in some good slow songs (about ever third song) and of course some fast polkas!!
The DJ should know and feel the crowd and play the music to suit it.

Take some dance lessons if you would like. There is nothing wrong with knowing a few basic steps like the foxtrot and waltz :)

I took some salsa dance classes (with my now ex). Pretty useful because if you're good, you can make any inexperienced female partner look like an exceptional dancer. And you know they'll thank you for that. :D

It really depends on the wedding, although for a college-aged couple nowadays, I doubt you'll be seeing much ballroom dancing...unless that's something one/both of them or their families are really into.

I think I'll look into some waltz, foxtrot, and salsa lessons to cover most everything. It's not like I meet any women at work now, so maybe I'll find one at the dance school too.
