I'm not talking about hip hop crap, the songs that would blow the subwoofers out of your car... I'm talking about something that if you where to pick up a bass guitar, would be tough to play, but yet would sound good. Something that is technically difficult. One artist that I'm thinking of off the top of my head that plays awesome stuff is Victor Wooten, but I'm looking for more popular songs, things that are more likely to be played on the radio. Anyways I'm interested in downloading some songs that have bass lines worth listening to rather than this repetive 3 notes crap that I often hear on the radio.

Any Ideas?

I like the bass in Under The Bridge and Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Don't know if that's what you're looking for. ;)

I dunno about your question, but download "ultimate bass test" off of napster. Hehe, enjoy the thumping! :D It's a "song" done by THX- so you know it has some really good, low bass sounds. In fact, it's almost all bass. :p

WARNING: Don't turn up your speakers before you put it on. Leave your speakers at an average volume, then turn it up after a lil bit and you get a feel for it. This "song" has a LOT of REALLY low bass which can do some damage to one's ears.

yeah, that's fine, I'm just looking for ideas, for instance... anyone know of any good Bass Solos? Like there is a bass solo in the song "Aeroplane" by the RHCP... Anyone know of any other bass solos?

I love to turn Smashing Pumpkins- Geek USA up so it shakes the whole house near the end :)

I don't know that many earthshattering songs though, so don't look to me for much.

I'm NOT looking for a tester for a car... I'm just looking for songs with good bass lines... songs with Bass solos. Songs that are technically difficult for the musician to play.

I'm not looking for thumping, that's all... just a good bass line.

To me:

Thumping = Rap/Hip hop/something that belongs in your car to show off your system

I'M JUST LOOKING FOR GOOD BASS LINES! :)

RHCP "Aeroplane" is one of my favorite lines... The entire album Blood Sugar Sex Magic is the best collection of rad bass lines courtesy of Mr. Flea. The Who and Zeppelin and even to an extent the Beatles have some great bass stuff, very musical. You want technically difficult? "You Can Call Me Al" by whatsisface (it's an 80's song). The guy who does that bass is RAW. Also look around on Napster and download some of Bela Fleck's bass solos, amazing stuff.

whoa, the red hot chili pepers are popular! :)

well, I'd like to add a coupla songs.

Californication by RHCP. Its got a really nice bass line. Doesn't sound too hard, probably something you can learn in a week or two, but you can have tons of fun jamming with friends.
If you are looking for a bit more of a challenge, get the live version of californication that they played at the MTV awards this year. its the same basic line but with TONS of wicked add ons. There is also a solo, a really nice one too.
Over all, that version is MUCH better IMHO than the album version, you should get it just for the hell if it...
You should also try "All around the world" by RHCP again. The bass line sounds quite hard, it would be nice practise for your timing...it also has a lil solo....very lil...

well, you can also try Longview by Greenday, its nice, but too easy...it took me only like 20 mins to learn....

oh btw. Try the theme from Pink Panther. I played it for my music test last year. Its not hard, but its nice...

also, do you know that bass line. Its like the 'burglar' or something...they usually play it at shows when someone is sneakin around... it was in the simpsons with the cubic zirconia episode, where homer turns into a vigilanté....anyone know what I am talking about?

Try the new cd from Radiohead, Kid A. The doors on my closet shake when I play that cd.

Want good bass lines?

Listen too :

Rush
Primus
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (Victor Wooten)

Not a bass orientated band but I love the bass line on the first track of the album Moon Safari by Air. It's only a couple measures and it goes on for like seven minutes but I just love it! It's basic too, I figured out how to play it in a couple minutes...

Rancid - Maxwell Murder. It's hardcore punk, but there's a badass base solo in it.

Primus of course. If you can play Primus then you have to be technically good. I also think Rage Against the Machines self titled album had some awesome bass lines.

This isn't as difficult at Primus or Billy Sheehan or anything, I don't even listen to this group that much, BUT.....listen to "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac and tell me that isn't a happening bass groove. John Mcvie can play.
The Who is another good group to listen to for bass. Also check out Cream.
