I'm just trying to get a feel for what things work and don't in Vista...

OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit
DVD Playback: Built In/Mediaplayer/Media Center
CD/DVD Burning: Nero 7 (Custom, BurningROM + CoverDesigner only)
Backup: None
Antivirus: None
Firewall: Vista Integrated + Hardware Router
Imaging: Paint.NET

Antivirus: Kaspersky AntiVirus 6.0

Firewall: Windows Firewall + router of course

Image editing: ancient Ulead PhotoImpact 8.5 Pro, not fully Vista-compatible even in Win2000/XP modes. Interestingly, it freaks out when I try to use the Text tools 😕

3D modelling/animation: ancient Caligari trueSpace 4.3, not quite Vista-compatible. It clashes with Aero, since it's old 3D-accelerated software... go figure.

I also discovered that Windows Media Encoder 9 doesn't do screencapture in Vista, or definitely not x64 anyway. That's a bit of a nuisance since I sometimes shoot demos for people... I have to reboot into XP for that.

Antivirus: Kaspersky AntiVirus 6.0
Firewall: Default Windows firewall and router

I did notice one thing though. Not sure if it was with the program or my hard drive. When I installed a partitioning type program, because I don't like the way Windows Vista does its partitioning and you can't shrink the main Windows C drive very small without a third party partition manager. At least I couldn't and had system restore turned off. Thank goodness for keeping system restore on though because I don't know if the program or my Western Digital 150 gig hard drive was causing the problem.

My Windows Vista 64 bit would bootup but take forever to load at startup. Like if I would go to the windows start butten it would freeze up on me and parts of the start menu would go white. It took a good minute or two before everything become response again where I could actually use my pc. I did a system restore to before I installed that program and it seemed to fix it. Just that system restore took forever it seemed. Don't have this problem anymore though. I thought at first my WD Raptor 150 gig was dying or something. I hope laying it on its side in a Lian Li case is ok. I hope that doesn't become its doom. It shouldn't effect a hard drive I wouldn't think. I am loving it though. Its so quick in multitasking, installing programs, and makes my system fly.

AVG 7.5, Nero Ultra, Webshots, Adobe Reader 8, & Microsoft Works are what I have so far. I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit with 2 gig ram, I'm rather pleased with most aspects, runs quite fast actually. I will be adding programs & will post back
