What software is used in 3Dmarks 2003?

Are the demos from graphics engines that will be used in actual games or are they just tech demos?

they create the engine, and sometimes the engine is used in games, like max payne

3dmark 2003 was designed to test graphics performance only. It's engine is not suitable to use for any games whatsoever.

It's just a wrapper around DirectX 9, not an engine itself.
Amazing what DirectX can do these days.

Why would that be? considering the number for graphics engines that are used in multitude of games, one would think these guys would be nice positioned to launch a graphics engine of their own to be used in various game development.

Ofcourse developing a game engine like Netimmerse (DAOC, Morrowind), Quake, Unreal, Lietch (NOLF, NOLF2 etc) may entail more than just eyecandy like on display in 3dmarks 2003
