DVD Decrypter + DVD Shrink + Nero 6 = DVD backup bliss 🙂

Why was it necessary to throw DVD Decrypter into the mix?

Because sometimes DD can rip the VOB files completely when DVD Shrink can't.
You mean some VOB files fail to rip in DVD Shrink or what ?

Yeah, basically. Shrink is still good at ripping, but I've gotten errors during its ripping process before. So I tried using DD and it it was able to rip the entire DVD with no errors. So, I just switched to DD for ripping entirely and just use Shrink for the analysis/compression.

Like BlueWeasel said, you don't need Nero, but it's always good to have for burning CD's, SVCD's, ect...
And for burning disc in UDF format...IIRC, DVD Decrypter can't burn image as UDF.

I have ripped about 200 or so dvd's and have needed DVD Decrypter only twice as I believe it to be a little better for dirty/damaged disks, but haven't found it to be a standard coping step. Is there another reason you guys use it?

No particular reason and it's more of just a habit for me. I rarely ever use Shrink to rip anymore, unless I'm backing up an episodic DVD and Shrink is necessary.

Does DD burn also ? I like that Shrink added it.

Yep, just go under Mode --> ISO --> Write, and select the ISO file that you created in Shrink.

Again, there is no advantage to using this method over Shrink's features (it's just a habit).
