What software do people use to make small wood working projects?

I've used TurboCad for some woodworking projects. It also lets you print true size (taping together pages if needed) so it's nice for making patterns.

autocad is pretty expensive software. It seems overkill for a woodworking project.

also, it doesnt do you that much good unless if you are very familiar with the software or if you have a linked lathe.

Autocad is typically used more for metal projects.

You could absolutely use it while designing a project. AutoCAD LT and other CAD programs will do what you need and will be a lot cheaper than full-blown AutoCAD.

Well, I have a wood workign project to build a small altar for a child's sunday school class. I have all the demensions and pictures. Can anyoen here put it into a program to print out the design?

Why not use plain ol' graph paper? Technology is not the solution to all problems.

Agree - if you already have pics & dimensions, a cad program isn't going to get you much more, unless you really have a hard time visualizing the individual pieces and how they would fit together.

While I have used a CAD program for my woodworking, It's ussually just rough sketches with pencil & paper - but I'm pretty good at visualizing how the project will come together.

Well, is anyone willing to make plans for me from a few pictures and measuremnets?

I would, but I just don't have the time right now.

Oh well, thanks.

Anyone else?
I think it will be very simple and look very neat.
