I used ATI's Video Capture utility to capture Triumph on Conan last night (it was a re-run) and now I want to play the video. I had the DigitalVCR capture the video in DVD quality and it's now encoded in MPEG2 format.

What software can I use to playback the video? Anyway I could encode it from MPEG2 to MPEG1?

Windows media player and the ati player should be able to play it. I'm not sure but I think that MP2 has a bunch of copyrights or patents or something, so a free converter might not be easily available, but there are some out there probably. You might try www.doom9.org. Ive never used any of that type of stuff, so I don't really know.

They don't.

That's what I've read as well. I was hoping someone would be able to find some free software. Heck, I'd even pay something to see that clip again.
have you checked vcdhelp.com on converting them?
No, never heard of them. I'm new to this video stuff. I'll give them a shot.

PowerDVD does the trick for me,

also convert the show to divx instead of mpeg1, saves space and you get better quality if you encode it well

I had problems playing videos (win 98se) and I reinstalled direct x and it fixed them. Thought maybe you might have had a similar problem.
