What software do I need to set up a board like this?

Can someone tell me how would I go about building a bulletin board like this one. What software do I need and where do I get it?

Thanx

Well I beleive that this board is made by Fusetalk and is written for .NET server.

So basicly your going to have to have a Windows server OS and run IIS and MS SQL. Then you purchase fusetalk and install it on that. I suppose it could run on WinXP, but that probably would be a waste.

requirements

Another one is vbulletin

However you don't need to pay for all that stuff to get a forum going. There are plenty of free versions that work just fine like phpbb

here are some statistics

but basicly the type of software is all the same. You need a web server, a database software (like MySQL or MS SQL), and messageboard software. Probably a few other smaller things depending on the type of forum you choose.

Probably the cheapest and one of the most common setup would be take a linux server with mysql, apache, and run phpbb. If you don't like Linux you can do pretty much the same thing with Windows and IIS.

do the php thing... there's plenty out there for free...

I use telnap and I think they actually have an option that will set it all up for you or something. you can ask the guy for more details. (that's if you need webhosting also).

The real trick is getting users for it :-/

edit:

My vote goes to Invision and phpBB. I used to use Invision, and liked it a lot, but their latest version is no longer free. It was offered for free for a short while, but then they closed that, and as far as I can tell I can't update it any more. So I switched to phpBB. I still think Invision had more polish and some better features, but phpBB is open source and hopefully has more room to grow at the cost I'm willing to spend.

But again, the big thing is getting people to use it. Still haven't got that one to work - I'm pretty much the only one who uses the one I have set up! I just need a reason for people to be there....haven't gotten that part figured out yet....
