Everyone probably has a handful of software that they genuinely use almost every time they sit down to a computer. The useful, utilitarian programs that we just cannot live without. I figure that starting a thread like this may help some of us find that next program we don't already use.

I'll start with my list:

Firefox
gAIM
iTunes
myTunes
Snadboy's Revelation

Please add your contributions and let's get a good list of the cream of the crop of useful apps. Preferably freeware, but doesn't really matter...

akregator -- who has time to check and read web sites manually when there's RSS?

apt-get -- it's still the easiest method to obtain and update software.

Flashblock -- gives you little (f) icons instead of annoying flash animations, so I can click to view the ones I want to see and ignore the obnoxious ones.

Greasemonkey -- view the web your way, no matter what designer has done to annoy you-- microscopic fonts, unreadable colors, obnoxious animations, or writing their pages in a language you can't read.

VNC -- for the rare times when I need to interface with a Windows box.
