im looking for medium-weight stuff... for lots of walking... tho this may conflict with the quick-dry idea...

Use pure wool socks. They don't dry particularly quick, but they're the best thing to have when you're on your feet all day. They're thick, and cushiony, and they wick moisture away from your feet. They also don't create bacteria nests the way synthetic socks do.

Do you really need quick drying stuff? Most socks will easily dry overnight, no?

I actually had a pair of Gore-tex waterproof socks that went over my other socks. Wore very thin socks underneath and never had a problem wearing boots or sneakers.
