What socket type did the pentium pro use?

The fan on my old pentium pro cpu is going bad. I can't seem to find just a fan so I'll just order a new hsf combo once I find out which type of hsf to order.

Thanks.

Pentium Pro's plugged into "Socket 8" motherboards. Have you tried any of the newer heatsinks made for socket 370/A? It would probably fit just fine assuming the clip isn't too tight or loose.

Any large heatsink with a completely flat contact surface should do the trick. Worth a shot in any case.

A Pentium Pro is HUGE!! I don't think a socket A/370 hsf will work. I have a couple of heat sinks, that I took the fans off of to put on my other heat sinks.
They use a regular 60mm fan. If you want one, LMK.

PS: They are Pentium Pro heat sinks that I took off the PPro 200/256 when I replaced them with 200/1meg cpu's.

FWIW my pentium pro 200 didnt even have a fan on the heatsink. That thing got so hot it would burn you though. Never had any stability problems so it wasnt a concern.

That thing is still chugging away in my aunts house. Makes a good web/email computer.

Slot 2 is Xeon. And as for Pentium Pro's getting hot, the amount of heat coming off my dual 200/1meg PPro's really surprised me! I mean, we are only talking about 200 mhz, here!!!

I believe it was the super socket 7, but someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Metalliod...read the post bro! LMAO

Listen to Steell, I sold him a dual PPro rig.....all PPro's use SOCKET 8! No socket 7 cooler will work on a socket 8, sok8 is HUGE. However, you can just unscrew the fan and replace it.

ya, the socket 8 is roughly the size of 2 socket a/370's. It was just plain huge.
