What size widescreen LCD is the same height as a 19" 4:3 LCD?

24" 16:9? That's how I have mine set up right now. I'll have to wait until I get home to see if they are matched up right. Also I think the 24" inch I have is actually only 23.5" or something.

23.25" for a 16:9 display, would match the same height as the 19" 4:3.
21.5" for a 16:10 display, would match the same height as the 19" 4:3.

A 19" 4:3 display is 15.2" x 11.4"

A 23.25" 16:9 display is 20.3" x 11.4"

A 21.5" 16:10 display is 18.25 x 11.4"

Fwiw, if you're moving from a 4:3 or 5:4 display, I recommend looking for a 16:10 rather than a 16:9 display. Having only 900 or 1080 vertical pixels is a bit claustrophobic imho, even if the screen size is very large, the space in terms of pixels for display area is cramped.

1920x1200 or 2560x1600/1536 FTW.

the resolution is 5:4 but pixels don't have to be square (tho... does windows assume pixels are square?)

we'd need actual dimensions to determine :hmm:

I've never seen a non-widescreen 19" LCD not have: 1. square pixels and 2. 5:4 aspect ratio.

I have a 22" 16:10 and 19" side by side. They are pretty much identical in height with the 19" under 1cm taller.

Given the way LCDs are manufactured and my personal experience with them...I don't think the beast you're describing exists. I've never seen an actual example of one...perhaps some strange laptop screens from the 90s? :p People have routinely (and incorrectly) described the 5:4 17" and 19" LCDs as 4:3 since they became common. It's funny because people would often complain about horizontal stretching in games on a widescreen and recommend at 5:4 monitor instead...which of course suffers vertical stretching in many games. :p

Just a reminder - For LCDs size in inches is not the only factor, pixel pitch, native resolution, are major factor. If you want similar experience, and size of text on screen and stuff like that, then you need to consider other factors as well.

I happen to have a 19" 4:3 on the right and a 22" 16:9 (maybe 16:10 BUT i doubt it) on the left. They are chosen because the screen height is similar and 2x 22" WS were not available.

You need to increase diagonal by 15-20%. That's all the ballparking I will give you. I forget the exact % but you'll need a 22"-23" widescreen to match up with a 19" in height.

And I know this because I spent about 5 minutes in Excel doing the math a year ago because I wanted to know.

For others, not everyone calls them widescreens. I call them short screens because for everything other than movies, they are a waste of screen real estate.

22" if 1680x1050 is 16:10, if 1920x1080 or 1600x900 is 16:9. I vastly prefer 16:10 whenever I can find it, you get all of the goodness of wide combined with a little less vertical cramping.
