What size sleeving do I need to sleeve a PS?

Hey there,

I am gonna do it; I'm gonna sleeve my PS. It would look nice...lots of folks are doing it...it can't be THAT hard. <--famous last words? :Q

Anyway, what sizes do I need? Probably two different ones. One for the ATX and one for the rest of the Big Molexs (HDs/Optical drives/floppy)

Interestingly enough, none of the online stores have a "legend" or chart saying "buy this size for "this applicaiton."

Thanks!

I managed to use 1/8" for the molex connector cables. It gets to be a pretty tight fit after you get 2 or 3 of the wires in there, and you stuffing the last one or two through was kinda tough, but I think the extra effort was worth it to keep all the wires in tighter bundles. I measured the wires in a 2x2 arrangement, and it came out to be about 3/16"~1/4", which just squeezes into the maximum diameter the 1/8" is capable of going to, according to this chart at SVC.

The main ATX cable on my power supply came pre-sleeved (thank you Antec), but I'd guess that 3/4" tubing oughtta do the job well. Maybe 1/2", but might be a bit of a squeeze.

Thanks, aSnipingPenguin. I have the pre-sleeved ATX cable on my Antec as well...I might resleeve it to match the blue I'm going with on the others. I have to wait until I get my case to see if maybe I can hide the ATX bundle and not have to resleeve it. :)

Oh yeah: :camera:s? would be cool...

aSnipingPengiun, do the wires show through? Think a double-sleeve job would be worth it? I was thinking about black sleeving over chrome...

Ooo, or imagine UV-reactive under black :Q sort of a "contained-radiation" look! :D

Man, that'd look really cool.... I dunno how doable it is, though :(. The sleeving I used (got it at Fry's) has really tight weave, and you can barely make out that there's a red wire in it even if you look really closely. Maybe you could find a looser weave that's more see-through, like the sleeve that came on the Antec ATX cable seems to be a lot more porous (or my eyes might just be playing tricks on me).

By the way, thanks for mentioning that Radio Shack carries the Molex pin-extractor tools, aSnipingPengiun  They're charging half of what it costs at some online stores ($7 versus $15). I wish we had a Fry's around here... :(

that one can work, but the size is ~.01 too big to be perfect. but it works as long as the idiots who attached the connectors didnt screw up...

1/4" is the common dimension for the 4 wire molex (includes 12V connector).
3/4" to 1" is what i recommend for the 20 or 24 pin mobo connector.

take a strip of paper, and wrap the wires yourself. then mark appropriately. remove the strip of paper, and see how big of a diameter you think you should have.

Thanks for the clarification, MDay. :) I wouldn't want to order wrap too small...that would stink. :)
