What Size Power Supply?

Right now I have a Corsair 520W power supply. It ran my 640GB Western Digital drive, Radeon 4870, and C2D E6550 just fine.

The other day I plugged in a 1TB drive and noticed a lot of crashes and reboots. I can only assume it's too much power draw since it seems to happen when the 1TB (WD Green Drive) fires up for file transfers.

I ultimately want to run my 640GB drive and a RaptorX drive. What size power supply do I need?

I was figuring on getting another modular Corsair so I don't have to rewire my case. The 650W is a good price, but the next step up in modular drives is a lot more (1000W I think).

Will the 650W be enough?

That PSU should be enough to power that system, possible it may be going bad, I'd write Corsair an email and let them know, should be within 5 year warranty period, see what they say.
Otherwise, if you want to stay with a modular PSU than the 620HX is the one you want, the 650 is not modular

You're right, I realized after looking I had written the wrong wattage.

Maybe it's something else. I have the sides off the computer so maybe it's overheating? But I wouldn't think so.

Overheating could be an issue, I'd also look into any BIOS updates that may be related to your problems, update BIOS only if necessary, driver updates for your motherboard or chipset drivers. could try a different sata cable or check to make sure that its secure.

Thanks.

Maybe it was because the sides were off. I'm glad it's (probably) not my PSU. The modular ones get pretty pricey :)
