What size power supply to run a gtx 670, mine blew up

Ashenor

Golden Member
Am assuming my stock power supply blew up.

I have a gateway FX6831-01

I7 860
8g DDR3
Gtx 670 evga SC
M4 256g SSD
1.5 tb storage drive

I upgraded the video card about 3 months ago and have not had any issues. I did get one red screen other day playing GW2, and it rebooted a few days later. Tonight it just turned off while playing and wont power on at all, zero signs of life.

Not sure what stock power supply is.

What size new one should I get, heading to microcenter in the morning. With my current motherboard I can't sli so will be running just the one 670 gtx.

Thanks for the help

Meghan54 no need to be like that, if you don't like someone's comment just ignore it. It's not against forum rules to suggest something that doesn't 100% fit someone's specific requirements. Sometimes it's useful to suggest alternatives, and whether that's the case here is for the OP to decide, not you.

Ashenor is your CPU overclocked?

I think the best deals on MC is PCP&C MK III 600W $85 (should also come with $20 MIR, ask). Unlike the Antec HCG-620, it has five year warranty and it's modular, otherwise similar

Thanks for the help i ended up buying the Antec 620 for $82.

PC is back up and running, only thing i need is one more of the thin HD connectors.

I am assuming i need a adapater or sometheing, the 3 on the one cable i am running are used, other HD connection i had to run the 4 pin type connector to hook up the power button on the PC.

Thanks for the help

I almost went with that one, i just hate MIR's so i went with the Antec for $82.

If you have any old modular cables lying around then you could make that into a SATA power cable. I had a few that I turned into a molex to quad SATA cable, and im using them now to power all my drives, just DONT mix up the 5v and 12v placment like I did..............thank god I tested it on a dying drive before putting it into my system.
