What size monitor supports 2 documents side by side?

What size monitor supports 2 documents open full size side by side? Can I get away with a 22" or must it be a 24"

Should I be looking at resolution and not physical size? Can I do it with 1680 x 1050 or do I need 1920 x 1200?

I can do two word docs @ 100% side by side on a 22" with 1680x1050 but you may have to scroll a little sideways.

In Word 2007,

At 1680x1050 it places the pages side-by-side at 90%.

At 1920x1200 is places them side-by-side at 100%.

I am assuming that if 1920 x 1080 is not an output option available in the windows display properties, than a 24" 1920 x 1080 monitor is not doable - I must stick with a 1920 x 1200 24" if I go with a 24"

Display Properties will not show a resolution that your current monitor can't support. What monitor are you running? Pretty much any card built in the last 8 years will support 1920x1200 or 1920x1080, depending what the monitor supports.

EDIT: And I'd recommend a 1920x1200 for side-by-side docs (that's what I use at home and work). 1680x1050 is doable, but as masteryoda stated above, it's a little on the small side. You also see more vertically on the 1920x1200, if that matters.

although highly unlikely, would 1920 x 1080 not allow the display of an entire page vertically but a 1920 x 1200 will?

Word 2007 @ 100% will not display an entire page vertically at 1920x1200.

Word 2007 shows 2 pages side by side at 74% (because of the ribbon). If ribbon is set to hide, it'll show 80%

Does that Office 2007 Ribbon really eat up that much screen? I was testing on Office 2003, and that was showing 100% on 1920x1200 and 87% on 1680x1050.

Yikes! That's a ~ 25% loss of the document area for prettier buttons? Is there a 'Classic' skin, like for XP/Vista? We're probably upgrading to Office 2007 when the new server comes (has MSO2K7 licenses bundled).

Is it a bad idea to buy a monitor with only a VGA and HDMI input, and then use a DVI - HDMI adapter to send the signal to it?

I've got a 23.6" asus monitor 1920x1080 and it'll do 2 document @ 100% also I use a dvi -hdmi adapter and I don't see any problems even with a cheap 3 dollar hdmi cable I got at fry's
