What significant progress occurred in your life within last 5yrs?

Graduated college and broke up with girlfriend of 3 years. Moved to California with very little. Was unemployed on and off a lot for 2 years working in the entertainment industry. Almost went broke and racked up a lot of debt during that time. Finally got things going a couple of years back and have had steady work for a long while and just recently I settled in at a sort of entertainment web site.

Went from having no computer to being a major computer nerd, with a (albeit crappy) programming job under my belt.

Worked at mcdonald's, left, came back.

Left my dad's, moved into my mom's, moved out with my then girlfriend, broke off relationship, moved back in with mom.

Squeaked by high school and eventually (just now, basically) got around to (community) college.

Was a jobless, school-less, social-life-less hermit for ~7 months and did a lot of reflection, which has continued to present and has really helped me become a much better person.

Got into even more extreme music, and then started listening to a larger variety of music; now I listen to most kinds of music (but I definitely don't think most music is good).

Generally have become much more informed and educated, mostly from the internet (in all seriousness, oh and I mean the whole internet, not necessarily the web)

Found AT and started posting ... bringing myself to over 10k posts now. 🙂(?)

Very little.. None, actually.. at least as far as society is concerned.

I don't see it as a bad thing, though. I met my girlfriend right as I was laid off(Got laid off in June 2001, met her in November) and moved back in with my Dad. She was still in highschool, so it's almost like I've been waiting for her to get done with that so we can move on with our lives. I guess some would look at it as wasted time. I could've been going to school during that time, but I don't know.. that just didn't seem like the right thing to do at the time.

Now that she's out of Highschool, we can finally really focus on our goals and visions that we've been dreaming up the last 3 years. 😉

moved out of my moms home at 16 with my then girlfriend
got off probation at 17
learned a lot about family (haha), having a household and living on my own
went through the school of hard knocks every other day due to my chosen profession
became physically addicted to vicodin
bought my first shotgun at 17
got my license back at 18
after a year of that....my addiction got worse, there was a lot of drama related to my job and my once loving relationship deteriorated into bitter animosity
at 18 decided sort of suddenly to move to hollywood and attend film school moving out quite suddenly and leaving everything behind
i got off vicodin
made first short at 18
made several more films while completing film school

now...at 19, i am still in hollywood doing what I love, making my own films/commercials and helping others with their projects. What I've always wanted to do...and bs'ed about doing for a long time. i regret a lot of the negative stuff in the past but I'm still here...and I try to learn from it.

not to ramble but this thread made me sit back, and think of the changes I have seen in such a short time....amazing, really. but then again I am a little kid

Quit high school. Allergies and all.
Trying to get through college. I just so happen to go to the one college that IS a garden. /me hangs head in shame.
Found I had Lyme disease. Woohoo. Why couldn't I have been told that earlier--sure would have saved some money!
Manage a bare social life, then get hit hit with something, become a fatigued hermit for a few months, diet and hygiene start going down the tubes, then start getting better, try to build back said social life, rinse and repeat. Said social life includes friends that are stoners, but I'm not. Kinda odd.

5 years? Long time.
Nursed my then-9yr old son thru 2 major illnesses
acquired a grandson. Oh, and a son in law
buried my mother after long (10+ yrs) illness and court battles to let them pull the plug
divorced my cheating husband
& moved with my son into a cool new place, just ours
had 3 FT jobs, then (now) had a series of PT jobs and trying to start a business

That's for a start. No wonder I'm fried.

past 5 years
- two children
- got laid off twice while contracting
- found a full time job paying more than I ever made contracting with an excellent company and coworkers

As far as the jobs went, I have decided something always happens for a reason. Whether I am lucky or not, I always entered into a better situation after each layoff.

Graduated HS
Graduated college as among the first accredited Soft E programs in the nation
Started a career as a software engineer.

Too...much...progress....
