What si a VIA minport driver, and how do i uninstall it?

I just downloaded an updated AGP driver for Win 2K, and when i tried to install it, it said I need to uninstall the VIA miniport driver first?

Boot into safe mode, delete the via agp driver in device manager, reboot, install amd agp driver.

Would that be the VIA CPU to AGP controller, or is it something else? And this can only be done in safe mode?
