What should your pings be on a LAN?

I have a wired ethernet connection and I'm wondering what a good ping time would be on a home LAN.

I would say anywhere between 1-4ms, it will mostly depend on the how fast your switch is.

between my windows box and linux box .. using cheap 100BT nics, cheap cat5e cable, and a cheap dlink switch, I get an average of 0.32ms \

Hmmm...I was getting 20ms over a LAN with a hub under Unreal Tournament. The PC is just about 25 feet away, isn't this a little high?

That is a tad high, but still reasonable. If the network is saturated, and depending on if you use a hub or switch, the ping times go up.

Moreover, Unreal Tournament's ping times are notoriously inaccurate. Make sure you're using some sort of real app to measure ping times.
