ok, in my English class i got a Philipino teacher (no stereotyping or anythign here, just describing her). i think she is about 50-60. she is a hell of a religious person (Catholic). she talks about it all the time. everytime we discuss in class (and you know that discussing is the thing that dominates most of the time in English classes), she always tries to orient the discussions into religious topics. and she even does the same thing with the classwork; all the topics we are assigned to write about relate to religion. maybe most of you know how a frantically religious person promote his/her religion.

ok, one example. once she assigned REFLECTIVE essay, in which she said we ahve to pick a topic (like love, charity, ...) out of the list she provided and show our own idea about that topic in the essay in order to search for truth. at first we didnt notice the part "in order to search for truth" becasue its meaning and purpose are kinda obscure and common sense; besides, the word "reflective essay" is pretty much self explaining. ok, so we just write and submit it.

then a week later, one of our classmates complained that the teacher corrected her writing in a weird way; not "this sentence is too long, or this sentence need a better punctuation....", but "your opinions are wrong because of this because of that...". she was writing about the topic "is abortion a crime?", and she stated her opinion that "in a way, early abortion is not a crime because scientifically, in the early period of pregnancy, the baby is just a clot of blood and blah blah... but the teacher crossed out that line and wrote over that "you are wrong because ethically, morally the clot is still a living being that has the ability to develop into a human blah blah...". and the worst thing is that she actually grade the essay base on how she determine if the students' opinions is right or wrong (!!??).

then a war bursted out between her and the class. and during that, she kept getting stick to her point and said we didnt follow the instruction when writing, which is "search for the common inner and ethical truth". when we ask what the hell is that truth? she said it is the common morality to not stop the life of that clot becasue it is a baby and what the doctors (science) or the law makers (politics) said to advocate abortion is just wrong and fallacy. then we said: ok, maybe that is her opinion; but no one actually knows what the real truth is, so she may not agree with others' opinion but not supposed to correct people's opinions like that. and she said WE ALLL KNOW WHAT SHE JUST SAID IS THE TRUTH. we ask how and why? she said becasue the Bible said so...!!!!!

later some of us talk to her personally about that. we said so what is the different between killing that clot of blood and killing a cow for meat. she said it is OK to kill animal becasue they dont have spirit of soul or whatever it says in her Bible. and any other example that we gave out to prove that she is not right to be that opinionative is rejected obstinately

after that, we know it is hopeless to change such dictatorial person, so we gave up... i mean she is the kind of person taht always believes in what she read from the Bible and tries to cram her own idea into people's head and force them to agree with her. she just tried to be the supreme being by determining if this opinion is wrong or that opinion is right, based on her Bible...

what shoudl you do if you were in my case? i cant drop the class becasue the deadline to drop is passed.

my wife had a english teacher like that last semester. She marked my wife down because of a quote she had the teacher didnt like (pro-abortion quote) my wife was argueing that abortion in cases such as rape and incest it was ok.

she wrote a very good paper. she recieved a F on it. She went to the dean and got it changed to an A.

Do you got to a catholic school or something? If this is a public school, talk to the principles/deans and see what they say...

just play along with her fanaticism...

I've had to play both ways with my professors.. I had one religious fanatic and I had maybe 3 or 4 that absolutely hated everything about religion. One that hated religion the most was a European History professor who tried to portray the Catholic Church as the most evil thing on Earth. The Catholics attending that class were given horrible grades that they didn't deserve. It was almost totally obvious.

If you can play along with her fantasy and get an A, more power to you. It's not like she'll have any power to change you through such idiotic behavior.

Go motherfvcking nuts.Go to the dean.Right to the paper if the dean does not help. Also get as many people as possible on your side when you go to the dean. I was in a similar situation last semester.

If you want to go so far with it you can actually sue her, though it looks better if the entire class files a class action (ha ha) suit.

Talk to the Dean. If he isn't very receptive bring up the possibility of said class action lawsuit.
