What should the P4B533-v do with no RAM or CPU???

Sorry to be a pain, but I tried ASUS support (no reply) and some other forums and no one has a definite answer and I'm really thinking of returning this board now - which would be a shame!

It just won't keep the PSU running when I press ON, I thought I'd still be able to get to the BIOS or some POST results, or even a speaker beep! If anyone has this board and experienced any weird PSU related probs, or you can test yours without CPU and RAM I'd really like to know what happens...

Thanks again.

About as much as a computer thats not plugged in. 😀

Ive done this before. The board needs the ram and cpu to "think" (actually execute the bios code).

For a system to start, you MUST have the following:

Power supply, motherboard, processor, RAM, video card.

With no processor, there is NO response.

With processor, but no RAM, there are continuous beeps.

actually yea, just plug speakers into the onboard sound (or jumper it for the case speaker) and it will tell you whats wrong :Q

<EDIT> i checked the manual for beeps...

one short beep = normal (duh!)
long beeps in an endless loop = ram
one long beep and 3 short beeps = vid
high pitch beeps = thermal throttle engaged

ASUS support got back to me, but I think they misunderstood the question - they told me to assemble the motherboard + components outside the case! Point being that I have no other components yet!

Anyway, as for beeps I will give that a try, but the system literally stays on for only half a second. Very odd.
