What should President Trump do with first 2 years?

Assuming Trump and Ryan/McConnell can see eye to eye, what will he accomplish before the mid-term election? Especially want to hear from those who voted for him...what would you like to see on the agenda?

My thoughts as to what he'll do:

- Appoint Supreme Court Justice
- New balanced budget initiative with moratorium on raising debt ceiling (thanks Paul and Newt)
- Defund Obamacare and Planned Parenthood and start working repeal (replace?)
- Repeal Estate Taxes
- Cut foreign aid
- Reach agreements with Russia and Assad ending US support of Syrian rebels in exchange for limiting Iranian influence and collaboration against ISIS in Iraq
- Scrap TPP, start reworking NAFTA, and focus on bilateral trade agreements with UK, Russia and perhaps India and certain Latin American countries not named Mexico.
- Restrictive trade tariffs on Mexico, Japan and China
- Some sort of infrastructure program (funded by???)

Who specifically? Known illegals that have been documented by INS/ICE? Should he include DREAMer parents AND children, or allow children under the age of 18 to be placed with a legal guardian?

Not for defunding Planned Parenthood, tariffs, or cutting foreign aid (except military aid). The rest I'm all for though, let's get to work.

Just curious, but how do you propose balancing the budget, while at the same time repealing estate taxes? Please be specific. These details kind of matter at this point.

I will let him figure it out, he said he would do it, so now he needs to live up to his word.

There's no way to deport all of those people without sending both the US and Central and South America into chaos and Trump knows it. What we need is a clear path to citizenship and you only have x amount of time to do it, otherwise deport. No fvckups, you get caught selling meth or something - deport. And above all else actually secure the border. Doesn't have to be a "wall" per se, but it's 2016. The technology exists to prevent people from traversing it. Not doing so is merely making excuses.

If you repeal estate taxes, the law needs to be changed with regards to how the inherited value is set. As it currently stands, the capital gains would never be taxed because the inheritor gets a stepped up basis.

No f**king clue, I didn't vote for him. Just wanted to start the discussion to see if we can start separating the campaign fantasies from the feasible realities we face in 2017.

Clinton was the one itching for a war in the ME. I highly doubt he will be making anti-LGBT laws, what he might do though is not let LGBT proponents walk all over everyone else however. And the nuking places comment is absurd. Trump has de-escalated tensions between the other nuclear superpower in the world. That's already done far more for world peace than Obama (who has bombed numerous countries while in office).

Can I vote sign two years' continuing resolutions followed by long vacation with Congress?

Not hiring illegals is a MUST, a wall, sure why not, but only if he does get Mexico to pay for it. The thing about a wall is it can be defeated with a rope, or dig under it.

A bunch of deficit spending and tax cuts paid for by promises of economic growth. GOP likes to play Santa when a Republican is in the Oval Office.
I may be wrong, but I don't actually see them repealing Obamacare. Then they'll own the health care mess, tens of millions of new uninsured, return of discrimination on preexisting conditions, loss of subsidies, basically horror stories across the country. Dems will hammer them on it like they've been doing to Dems since 2010. They may replace the unpopular individual mandate with more deficit handouts from the government to the insurance industry, and call it a day. Just like Bush expanded Medicare.

Trump is not stupid. Without a ground game, a think tank or even the support of his own party, he managed to win on instinct.

He won on economic and not social issues. He needs to distance himself from the bathroom/gay marriage/abortion wing of the party and put people to work.

Bold investments in rust belt infrastructure projects.

Level the playing field by penalizing companies that exploit migrant labor

Strengthen our borders but also provide a path to citizenship for those willing to follow the process as did predecessor immigration waves.

Resolution to Syria and ISIS ASAP through a broad coalition that includes Russia and possibly China.

Revisit tariffs and trade deals.

Fix Obamacare, don't repeal it

He will go down in history one way or another. He now has the opportunity to strive for greatness.

It depends on what your definition of "should" is.

If it's to make his base happy: he can't realistically build the wall, deport millions of illegal immigrants or ban all Muslims from entering the US. However, he definitely needs to make gestures in those directions, like stricter border enforcement (more patrols, better equipment), maybe deporting significant numbers of illegal immigrants and introducing some kind of tougher standard for immigration from countries known to host extremists. Certain things, like repealing Obamacare and cutting taxes, are virtually givens with a Republican-controlled Congress.

If he wants to stand a realistic chance of being re-elected in 2020: actually plan to serve as President, rather than delegating real responsibilities to Pence like we understand he will. Don't turn back the clock on rights for women and LGBT people, expand libel laws, or gut pro-environment initiatives. Accept science. Don't lie about what you said in discussions like he did with Nieto, or start diplomatic incidents because his ego can't handle any criticism.

If he genuinely wanted to unite the country and improve it: forfeit the presidency and make sure Pence doesn't assume the role, either.

Ha! That's not going to come from Trump. Not with Trump's tax plan, which will cut taxes for just about everybody. That can't be paid for without more debt.

Now, it might come from Paul Ryan, and it might succeed, but only if Congress rejects Trump's tax plan.

And he absolutely will (already has to some extent)

His coalition consists of educated voters who hate Washington waste, poor white voters (some of whom do hate *all* immigrants, minorities and SJWs) and Christian conservatives who hate everyone but themselves. So he will appease conservatives by appointing a somewhat conservative SC justice and that will be enough to hold them over. But you won't see him advocating against LGBTQ.

He will appease some of the poor white folks with a jobs program in the rustbelt but otherwise they can be sacrificed (they won't make a good donor class--you don't expect him to fund reelection himself do you?) He will struggle with the educated and more well-off GOPers because trimming Washington waste is hard, but he can appease them with a few tax cuts and promise to pay for them later.

Welp, there goes the American restaurant industry and all the service jobs with it...

Plenty of people will work in the industry with a proper wage. If people want to support them, its going to cost more, plain and simple.
