I have a computer on the lan acting as an ICS gateway and a few acting as ICS clients. How should I set up za to let use windows file sharing between the computers, and access the internet through the ICS gateway, while still being protected from the internet?

If all you are doing is running Win32 OS's, then I suggest you use Netbeui protocal to share up your network instead of TCP/IP. Zone alarm by default on High/Medium settings don't allow for TCP/IP network sharing.

hmm I used to use netbeui when I was using win98 all over my lan because I thought that was the only way, but then I got win2k and tcp/ip seemed much faster and easier to configure

Hmm...I've never done ICS with zone alarm installed...so I can't help you.

But for the people who are posting just to say how much they don't like zone alarm...this really isn't the place. The guy asked a question about how to set up ZA. He didn't ask if you liked the software or not. I know I'm not a mod or anything...but that kind of stuff should probably go in a different thread.

I have ZA set up on Medium security settings on the Trusted zone, so long as u set the LAN adapter/network to the Trusted Zone rather than Internet Zone, then it will just work by enabling File sharing on the computers :)

Set it like confused said, then when all the programs have asked for permission to access the internet that you want, I usually set it to high from medium. This makes sure that any new programs or trojans or whatever have to ask for permission to access the internet. This works for me just fine. I have cable and have had almost 4000 attempts to hook up to my machine inbound and outbound within the last yearby various hacks, 800 of them have been serious according to the software. I use the pro version.
