What should my fps be in these games with this setup?

Just wondering what my fps should be in Wolfenstein MP, Day of Defeat, Medal of Honor and Quake 3 on my system. For a $300-$400 video card it doesn't seem to be that amazing. We had a lan and a friend of mine was beating my fps readings in Wolf with his Geforce 256. I'm running WinXP if this helps. Just wondered if anyone else has a similar system and what your fps's are.

Also what was it that you had to edit for Q3 engine games to overcome the fps max limit?

I would think it could be because of windows XP. What OS did your friend have? In 3dmark my friend got 2000 points more when he changed from windows XP to windows 98 se.

If you mostly use your computer for gaming, I would recommend that you upgrade to windows 98 se. If your using your computer for anthing else, go with windows 2000.

Of course, that is just my opinion, many people like the extra features of XP.

oh dear lord i can't believe someone suggested 98se over xp, thats the worst thing you could ever do. and i dunno what kinda system you have but if you have a 400 dollar card = gf4 i guess, you should kill a geforce 256 which really blows at q3a and stuff. are you running at 1024x768+ ? aa on? 32 bit color? btw is your vsync on? card won't go any higher then your refreshrate

going from xp to 98se is hardly an "upgrade". do yourself a favor, keep xp. even if (as some people claim) 98se is faster for some games, if you have the hardware to support xp then there is no reason to do anything else for stability and ease of use alone. even a cheap gf3 would boost your setup like noone's business.
