What should I upgrade?

What should I upgrade? I just used Bench'emAll and wellmy results they suck.

So out of the stuff.

I have an XP 1700 overclocked to roughly a 2200

The video card is running as a 9700.

And I have only 512 Megs of RAM (PC333)


So what is best to upgrade?

I am thinking an Xp 3000 CPU would be best.. I guess I could double the RAM, but is seems like doubling the CPU would be better. Right now the video card is running as a 9700 which is a solid video card so that should be fine.

What are the professional opinions?

what is the original video card? 9700 np or pro? 512 megs of 333mhz ram is good enough. i would go with a new mobo / processor combo.

What motherboard are you using? What FSB is it running at? What are you upgrading to improve? Gaming? Media Encoding?

To sum up the important stuff

Processor Supports up to AMD Athlon XP 3000+
333MHz Front Side Bus
Chipset VIA KM400 + VT8237
Memory 2 x DDR333 slots

I am running it at 170MHz right now since the CPU handles it fine.



I am only seeking to improve my framerates in FPS - the machine is just for gaming.

Original video card is a 9500np, which is softmodded to a 9700 (some artifacts but nothing terrible)

I love my current mobo - it is a ssf one but it will handle up to an Althon XP 3000 chip.

I'd personally just get some more cooling and oc higher or save the cash for your next rig
