What should I take from a same gen junked car?

One of my dad's friends has the same gen accord as me but recently got into an accident, he decided to junk it and asked us if there is anything we want from it. Three wheels and tires are perfect, I think I'm going to get one so I can have a full size spare, but I was wondering what else I should look for.

My car is fine so nothing I need to fix or anything... Should I see if maybe the engine is fine? We could pull that out and keep it aside so whenever my current one dies I could use that (mine has 166k miles) but even then, I want to do an H22 swap at the time, no clue if I should even bother getting anything.

Anything you can take off of it. Sensors, belts, rotors, calipers, everything that isn't trashed.

I would take as many trim pieces as i could, and a few other little such things. The door trip, just little interior tidbits. They take up little space and are a pain to replace if you ever need too - unless you have some already on hand :-D.

the headlight fixtures / taillight fixtures - if any of them survived the accident. If you get into a small accident, it's very possible to break these pieces (esepcially considering that most suv's bumpers are higher than your accord's is probally). At the very least you can sell them online for probally close to 30-50 each [taillights, not sure headlight costs].

What gen accord outa curiosity?

Do you have a space to keep a full spare engine?

I parted out a p10 g20 and managed to get most of my trim pieces and a taillight that was broken replaced. the taillight alone was 150 dollars saved ($50 from a junkyard for everything i wanted). I ended up selling the other taillight i pulled on ebay and made 50 bucks. w00h00, i ended up repairing those pieces for free.

Pull anything you can. Interiors are worth $$$$ if they're clean. If its got rear discs I might want those. The trunk carpet is another item that's in short supply (again, if its in good shape). Too bad you want the mirrors otherwise I might take them. What color is it?

Forgot to add things like the alternator, distributor (which are problem items), starter, calipers, etc.

Just take the whole car and put it on cement blocks in your driveway :)

Seriously though, interior bits like dashboard (especially the top if it's multi-piece; they always end up faded or cracking in the sun).

I've had both dizzys on my motors die. One of them died twice (once because the coil died; coil is under the cap). The other times the bearings crap out (loud screeching sound). I've had an alternator die as well.

I wouldn't bother with the starter - a new one is about $100 anyway if yours dies. I would definitely take the AC compressor just in case yours blows out though.

I've never had timing problems, but I can't remember how many times I've changed my alternator. Me and General have that love/hate relationship. :frown:
