I can't imagine any way not to see this as a price check, which isn't allowed.

Well, to answer your question, you probably shouldn't. Generally speaking, by the time you're ready to sell it (cleaned off your old data, don't have any possible use for it yourself) it's worth precisely spit. Dealing with craigslist or some kind of money transaction is usually a hassle, and if you try to sell it to a friend, they tend to think there's a warranty.

So shred the HDD and leave the rest by the curb. Some picker will come by and take it.

I search completed auctions on ebay to get a sense of what old hardware goes for. But really it's worth what you can get for it. I'd post it up on craigslist and see what happens. I've sold old PCs there before, never had a problem.

I missed the original un-edited OP, so I have no idea how old of a machine that we are talking about here.

If it's a single-core P4, give it away.

If it's a 65nm Core2Duo, then it's still worth something, but not very much.

If it's a quad-core, or has a gaming GPU, then yes, it would definitely be worth selling.

OP, just Google the parts and go to Amazon.com and see what the current prices are for the used item.

Another place to check would be craigslist.org in your area or even perhaps http://worthmonkey.com/.
