I just got a free voucher in the mail from rent-a-center that was part of a settlement I guess I was a part of (free money rocks). I don't really need anything electronics wise, but I also don't want this voucher to go to waste. Soooo give me some suggestions on what I should rent for 2 whole weeks.

Rent-A-Center drops off and picks up the items free of charge IIRC.

Stuff they rent out

the voucher reads like I can rent anything they have in stock.

--back story--

A few years ago in college, my roomates and I rented a big screen TV for a month during the super bowl. I rented it under my name.

Here's a link to the suit. Looks like it's only valid for Californians

I also got $114 out of it

I personally would rent a computer.

1) You can laugh at the $299 computer that people pay $120 a month to rent for a year.
2) You can make some serious work for them when you return it. IE it boots up with porn as the BIOS picture.

Bigass TV? Projector? Throw a movie night for everyone you know.

Or get an absolutely killer stereo setup and throw a party :D

You got a voucher? RAC gives two weeks free to anybody.

What was the settlement for. I signed up for a class action suit with them for overtime pay and ended up with $20:(

Rent-A-Center (RCII) announced today that the state court in California on Wednesday January 12, 2005, preliminarily approved the proposed class settlement in the case brought by Benjamin Griego and Arthur Carrillo.

The settlement will resolve pending claims under various consumer protection laws in California against Rent a Center challenging certain of the company's business practices in that state. In connection with the settlement, the Company is not admitting any wrongdoing for its past business practices in California.

Under the terms of the proposed settlement preliminarily approved by the court, Rent a Center agreed to pay an aggregate of $37.5 million in cash, to be distributed to the class of eligible Company customers who entered into rental-purchase agreements with the Company anytime from February 1, 1999 through October 31, 2004. Additionally, Rent a Center will issue vouchers to eligible class members for two weeks free rent on a new rental agreement for merchandise of their choice.

Under the terms of the settlement, Rent a Center would be entitled to any undistributed monies in the settlement fund up to an aggregate of $8.0 million, with any additional undistributed funds being contributed by the Company to non-profit organizations in California. In addition to the $37.5 million settlement fund, Rent a Center agreed to pay the plaintiffs' attorneys' fees as well as settlement administration and other costs. As previously reported, Rent a Center recorded a pre-tax charge of $47.0 million in the third quarter of 2004 to account for the settlement, as well as the Company's attorneys' fees.
