Got some new books in, what should I start with?

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown - I bought The DaVinci code back when the movie came out but never read it until recently. Really enjoyed the story. I like reading about secret societies, conspiracy theories and stuff like that. I'm also a bit of a history buff.

Spook Country by William Gibson - I've read most, if not all, of William Gibson's fiction so I would say I am a fan. I really enjoyed his books. It's been awhile since I read anything by him though.

The Gunslinger: The Dark Tower 1 - I actually got the boxed set that contains books 1-4. I haven't read much Stephen King. I really liked Hearts in Atlantis, and I think The Green Mile was the only other of his books that I have read. If I understand correctly, The Dark Tower series is connected to HiA in some way.

dan brown sucks and the last 3-4 books of the gunslinger series were so terribad that they retroactively ruined the earlier books in the series.

that defaults to Spook Country, but really, i think everyone should just read Push.

Voted for Angels & Demons. Haven't heard of the other two and it was pretty good.

Angels and Demon is a quick read, you'll probably blow thru it about a week. Read it first.

I know it has Robert Langdon, from DaVinci code in it, but is it like a sequel or continuation in the timeline to that or a separate book?

I don't remember A&D, other than it was "more of the same".
Spook Country was a letdown, but I've always held his earlier works (Neuromancer, Virtual Light, etc) in the highest regards.
Gunslinger was great. He ties many of his different 'worlds' into the DT universe.

Gunslinger. Bonus points if you can find a copy from before SK "updated" it.

I just bought The Strain on amazon. It was co-written by the author and director of Pan's Labrynth.

That was my impulse amazon purchase of the month, but so far it has great online reviews.

I was pretty disappointed with Spook Country. I just didn't feel like it held together that well, and the pacing was pretty choppy (for the record, I liked Pattern Recognition, my feelings have nothing to do with his shift to writing about the near-present, rather than the near-future).

Angels and Demons was pretty good. I read it right after I read The DaVinci Code. Then I picked up Digital Fortress and Deception Point and realized that Brown takes the same old storyline, changes the character names and places and reprints. They were quick reads but pretty much same old, same old. I'm neutral on Brown at this point - I see he has a new one out. I might check it out.

I just passed the 400 page mark in Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. I'd recommend it in a second! Wallace's writing style is really fun - haven't seen anything like it before. If you're interested, there's even a website about finishing it over the summer starting next week. They have 4 authors that will hold discussions on it each day of the week with a wildcard author on Fridays. www.infinitesummer.org is the website.

Check it out?

I don't like Stepehn King's writing and I don't know the middle guy, so I voted for A&D, which is an acceptable time killer for a couple of hours.
