What should I purchase for my new system?

Sean Maxwell

I have some cash to upgrade my PC one more step closer to my dream machine!

Any of you techs that can recommend one of the following or a different upgrade are welcome to! (My current specs are in signature)

Upgrades:

1. 1 x 74GB Raptor now, another later
2. 2 x 36GB Raptors now, RAID 0
3. Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Digital Speakers
4. Audigy 2 ZS
5. DFI Lanparty SLI board
6. Other, let me know what you think

I play video games mostly, and I really just like a fast, clean and responsive machine.

Thanks for any input,
Sean

Option one is the only one I would go for if I had your system. Install the operating system and your programs on the Raptor, and use the maxtor for movies and stuff like that. A second or bigger monitor might be nice if you really feel like spending money.

Klipsch speakers are another option.

I'd get the 74 Gig Raptor. More memory is always good. A Faster HD is a plus especially if you have your operating system on it. Everything else is redundant.

If you're chosing between 1 and 2, get option #1... and only get 1 74 gig raptor. RAIDing them gets you practically nothing.

3. speakers is a good option. Those x-530s are a good budget set, but nothing else in your computer is budget, so why are they?

4. If you already have an Audigy2, that would be a complete waste, especially if you're using x-530s.

5. I see no reason to change your motherboard if the one you have now is working.

I'd say get speakers... not necessarily z-5500s though. If you do get them, don't bother hooking them up digitally as I explained in this thread.

Getting Klipsch promedias, or better yet, an entry level HTIB would be a nice upgrade that you would actually notice a large difference and as a bonus, would keep its value very well compared with most of the other options.

1. good idea though it wont be too much of a boost. noticible nonetheless.
2. why? a 72gb raid0 drive is way too small.
3.kilpsch promedia ultra 5.1. by your specs, im guessing you're a gamer and that is exactly what the kilpsch promedias are for.
4. if you got audigy 2 why get a zs?
5. no real need for a lanparty. your oc is good enough as it is, you wont really get any signifigantly better oc with a dfi nf4sli board. only buy it if you need the extra features.

Don't raid..just get the 74GB Raptor for your boot drive, then use the 120 you have no for storage/backup, or get another big 7200RPM ide/sata drive.
