Someone I know is getting a divorce and about to move and she has a fridge that is 5 years old, side by side with ice/water and digital temp control she wants to sell. I have been using the same fridge for 10 years and do not have a clue what to offer for a used fridge. I do not know the brand

post make/model numbers.

"Fair" value could be anywhere from $100 to $500...or more.

Put on your reading glasses.

If I didn't have them on...I couldn't have read as much as I did...however, he DID NOT post them...and there's no way to give him a reasonably accurate value without them.

Put on your thinking cap...side-by-side fridges sell new anywhere from about $800 to well over $3000...

Most family/friends will simply give them to you just to get it out of their hair. In most cases it COSTS people to get rid of things like this (movers).

Personally I don't charge my family/friends....if I'm getting rid of it and someone close needs it, it's theirs.

I paid $225 for a used side-by-side fridge that's similar to what you described. The only reason I paid that much is because it's one of the very large ~26-cubic-foot fridges. If it had been smaller, I wouldn't have paid so much.

As others have said, since you know this person, offer $100 and say you'll take care of delivery. She'll probably be happy to not have to mess with selling it on Craigslist or something like that.

However, if the fridge was like $2k new (which we don't know without model numbers), then she might not want to sell it for $100.

A Sub-zero blank can run over $10k before you put a face on it, which is the work of custom cabinet makers, so double that.

Guessing it's $800 to $2000 portable model since it's doesn't have to stay with the house, ala most sales contracts for built-in anything.

Selling it is probably more problematic for both her and you, so just go buy a new one.

I offered 200 and she asked if I would do 400, I said no

Leave it at that....she wants too much.

When she finds out how much it will be to move it, she will call you and accept your 200.

At that point you tell her that you are no longer interested.

She is moving into a furnished place and need cash, she claims it was $1700 new

Check craigslist and see what similar models sell for. A number of years ago I sold a very basic 22 CF fridge that was 10 years old and white color for $100 in less than a day.

I am hoping she changes her mind, she doesnt have a truck and cant move it and I am letting her store some stuff in my shop so I am doing her a favor and saving her storage costs already

Seems like you're trying to rip her off a bit lowballing this IMO, but like I said you could see what $1700 5 year old refrigerators are going for on Craigslist.

Lowballing is the way to do it, assuming I am lowballing anyway. I always try to get something for a good deal, especially on something I dont really need

And there she is trying to get as much money out of your as possible......and this is why I stopped doing these sorts of favors for people.

Good guy always ends up getting screwed in the end.....
