what should i major in?

Well it's been 2 years since i got out of high school and got off active duty in the Marines. I'm planning to go to a community college and haven't got a clue on what i should major in.

I'm very good with numbers & math, physics,.

I have a GT score of 115 in the ASVAB (for those who's in the military). They said i'm going to make an excellent pencil pusher lol. But i chose the reserve and took the Bulk Fuel MOS cause that's the only one available.

sucked at english & reading.

like science.

right now i'm confused on what to major in. I"m confused between what's a hobby and what's real.

Like, i was planning on major in Mechanics b/c i like to work on cars and fix them and improve on them.

But then i also like Criminal justice because i like that field.

and i was thinking of going into business class (starting your new business)

........................

But out of all of them, i don't know what to do. I mean, I like computers, i'm very good at math, like to build and improve things,

arrr....

Any idea?

i know physics is fun. but how am i going to get money out of them once i get out?

plus there's this thinking of mine...

You are what you learn...

If i learn criminal justice, i'll work for someone else in criminal justice for the rest of my life

if i learn how to fix cars, i'll be a mechanice for the rest of my life..

etc...

I do not want to be on the left side of the quadrant at all... hence why i want to major in Business owning...

but deep down i know that it's not something i'll like. no passion for it.

i say take a little from each major and see what you like. find something that really do enjoy, not something that will make you the most money. be honest with yourself too, do not listen to anybody else but yourself when picking what you like.

in order to do something, you gotta have the fuel to drive you..

but it seems that all of the major that seems interesting to me, all in the end just make me an "E" employee of t hat field.

I'm confused on what to do.

Buisness is a useless major.... the vast majority of people end up in unrealated fields anyway. If you want to own a buisness, try getting a degree in the technical part of what you want the buisness to be in.... or F* it and just do something you'd enjoy or get use out of. I'd love to take a second major learning how to fix cars and would do it in a heartbeat if this dump of a state school offered it.

Q: If you want to own a buisness, why dont you save your tuition money for capital and start now?

Edit: allow me to clarify most people end up in fields unrelated to their major in college

i know exactly how you feel when it comes to picking a major. just take it slow and find something you enjoy doing, something it's not very obvious.

I like math & physics & science

I like to build things and & improve on existing products

i like to take things out even when it is in perfectly working condition just to see how it works.

I'm dragged to go to Classes such as: history, english.

any ideas on what major am i going to be most compatible with?

.

thats a good question, when you figure it out LMK

physicist actually get paid quite well, you can also get a masters degree and take up teaching. i know science and math are typically in high demand when it comes to teaching.

you could always spend a year undelcared.

I kinda wish I had done that. I went in as an English major. First semester of Sophomore year, I took a Sociology course, and it blew my mind. But by that point, I had already taken enough English classes where dropping it as a major and still graduating in 4 years wouldn't have been an option.

i know but i dont want to teach

im going to art school instead 😀

putting my BS in physics to good use

how hard is mechanical engineer?

I took physics & pre-cal in high school and aced it without any problem.

Asking someone else what you should major in is about as useful as asking someone else what you should eat for dinner, or what woman you should marry. We've all got advice, but only you know what you really want. 🙂

The only advice I'll give is that if you aren't in a career doing a job you love, you might as well not even work the job. I've seen far too many people "trapped" by a job they hate because they have bills to pay and stuff to buy. Why be miserable, you know?

So i should major in something i like doing.....

Well, like i said.

I like to build things and & improve on existing products

i like to take things out even when it is in perfectly working condition just to see how it works.

Forget about the major. What do you want to DO when you graduate? Specifically? Once you can answer that question, get the major that will lead you in that direction. If you don't know, we certainly can't choose for you, can we? 🙂

Let me tell you this, which might make your decision easier. I got a Chemistry degree 7 years ago, but never used it. I now work in Information Technology. Was my degree a waste? Certainly not. My employer respects my Chemistry degree just as much as my employer respects those who have Computer Science degrees.

First of all you don't go into physics for the money. It's a sign that that says its probably not for you.

And if your into it enough to major in it you have to get a Phd unless you just want to teach.

Major in math itself. . . get a statician job, teach, get government jobs, etc. . . you'll never be out of work with a math degree . . .
